  1. I can’t remember, it was quite a while ago.
  2. Are your bottles glass or plastic? I’ve had plastic bottles taken from me upon embarkation. Maybe I’ll just be safe and bring cans. Thanks. 😊
  3. Sure not like that coming into Canada. One is allowed one 40-oz bottle of liquor duty and tax free….but anything extra with alcohol in it is taxed up the ying-yang. Not worth it really…might as well buy it at one’s local liquor store. Mind you, if you’re lookimg for a particular liquor not sold in Canada, then it’s like you bought yourself a souvenir.
  4. Maybe, if you can somehow trade that US OBC into Canadian $$. If you spend it on board, then it’s worth the same as if an American spent it. I know what you’re meaning, but it’s really not worth any more for a Canadian. Only refundable US OBC is worthwhile to me. I can take it home with me.
  5. Is the ‘no plastic bottles’ rule still enforced for soda carry-on?
  6. I agree with you wholeheartedly. One has to respect the culture and livelihoods of places we visit. I’ve never visited a place that had absolutely nothing to offer. One can always find something. Sydney and Charlottetown aren’t ‘hubs’ of the tourist industry like Paris or London..but they have their own beauty and personality. I hope you enjoy your visits!
  7. That’s your opinion. ‘Down East’ as the Maritime provinces are called are not wholly money driven. It’s a typical conservative part of the country. In fact, they only just allowed Sunday shopping not that long ago. Their idea of Sunday is for church and family times. Not working on Labour Day is the best way to show appreciation of one’s workers. Not everyone pursues the almighty dollar. It’s a different culture than what you are used to. I doubt if they mourn the loss of tourist dollars on one day.
  8. I’ve done the Highland Village tour. If you like the ‘good old days’ and want to see an old school house, a general store, a horse shoer shop, and other original buildings…its fairly interesting. There are people in the building in period clothes to help with the history and use of the buildings. They are fairly spread out, so you get some exercise too!
  9. I wouldn’t think that getting change for a $100 bill first thing in the morning from a small time vendor would be easy. Keep us posted. Trying asking on your roll call board for a fellow cruiser to bring small bills and some coinage to exchange your large bill on the ship before docking in the port. Maybe guest services can exchange it for you too.
  10. Labour Day is meant as a celebration of the labour force and its accomplishments. If anything, stores, etc. should be closed to give the workers a day off to celebrate their hard work. Arriving at a port on a Sunday is poor planning, if you consider it that, of the cruise line, not the city.
  11. Also, there is part called Open Your Planner where you’ll find how many days until your cruise, a small description of each day of the cruise re: port days and sea days, a check-in page, etc. then there is the heading of Categories for the different types of purchases…spa, drinks, shore excursions, photos, wifi, etc. Hope that helps. 😊
  12. I had to have a Planner purchase refunded. It was worth about $300. Any idea about how long the refund takes? Thank you! 😊
  13. It’s a wise idea. I reserved a hotel room in Copenhagen a few years ago with a ‘pay now’ plan that discounted the price. 3-4 months later I show up at the hotel….sure, they have a room for me but I owe them….they never did take payment off my card. I verified it, but wasn’t planning on that $400-$500 expenditure at that time. Such is a lesson in the details. Now I verify large purchases, and small ones should be checked too.
  14. Also, when I purchase something from the planner, I always get an email confirming the purchase. I don’t always, but sometimes I check the cc just to make sure the purchase shows up. I will now check everytime. Charges show up on the cc in a nanosecond it seems to me. 😁
  15. Thank you Gumshoe958. It sounds like I only need a train ticket. I can walk from the station, hopefully the sidewalks are fairly smooth. I’ll just have the one suitcase. I’m only in Amsterdam the one night, leaving for Utrecht the next day. Everything I want to see is within walking distance of my hotel.
  16. I stayed at that hotel about 5-6 years ago and have fond memories. There’s a tram on the next street over that takes you to central Amsterdam. It’s s a nice ride, lots of canals and green space..and bicycles!! Cheese shops too! Enjoy!
  17. Sure, my hotel is on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, 119-121. It looks to be close to the corner of Gravenstraat.
  18. I took the National Express in November from London to Southampton. My suitcase was fine for the flight so was fairly close to 50 pounds. I would take Mr. Bull’s advice and offer to help lift the suitcase and offer a tip when the fellow puts it under the bus. Having a smile and being appreciative goes a long way too, which I’m sure you will be as I was when I saw my suitcase go under. 😊
  19. I’m going to be going to my hotel from the Schiphol airport by tram (I’m presuming). How do I know what stop to disembark? I will know the address of my hotel. Is there something like a tram map with street names and tram station names to help me figure out my stop? I tried looking at 9292, but every request I asked, it said no information. Perhaps I’m not asking properly. Do trams stop at every stop or just upon request? Thanks! 😊
  20. Was watching a video on Royal changes…on ships with Playmakers…..a person with UDP can only go there for a meal once a day now. They found too many were showing up for lunch, sitting all afternoon watching sports, ordering snacks and food, then wanting to eat dinner there as well. So the UDP isn’t exactly Unlimited anymore.
  21. You don’t have to set up a cash account on the first day. They will ‘front’ you at least $100 before contacting you to give them cash or a card. I usually go on the second, even third day depending on what the line-up looks like.
  22. I ordered one for my upcoming August cruise on Jewel. The picture shows Evian water being supplied with the bag. Did anyone, who ordered water, get Evian? TIA
