I personally would not let this deter me from getting off the ship. I got the same warning for Bahamas a little while back. It's all over the place. A friend of mine from Europe got a similar message about the US. That being said, I can understand why people would stay on the ship. If you aren't going to be comfortable than you will not enjoy yourself. The ship will be empty, I say enjoy the ship if that's what you wish to do and don't let other people judge you for it. It's your vacation.

Also too, chocolate milk is available at the buffet.

Never heard of him....I assume you meant John Heald, Carnivals Brand Ambassador.

How do we find out what movie is showing on which night, or do we just wait and find it in the Fun Times?
We just have to wait, unless you can get hold of a recent fun times.

Plus, now I get ultra premium liquor in all my mixed drinks instead of the regular brands.
Do you ask for that or it's automatic with Cheers?
-
Me too. It's at the end of the month. I find myself on cruise critic so much now just because I'm excited. I've been on John Heald's Facebook too which I've never been to before.

May I ask what FTTF means?
I'm going to expland on this. It's a program that you purchase as an "excursion" before your cruise. It gives you benefits that diamond and platinum has. You are still below the diamond/platinum level people though. The benefits are: priority security/check in/boarding, access to your cabin as soon as you boards, priority luggage, priority dining reservations, priority tendering, priority debarkation, and you can line up at guest services in the line for diamond/platinum guests.

The other most bacteria laden item on cruise ships are the tongs at the buffet!
I've never thought of the tongs in the buffet. You wash your hands before, but touch those things and then eat. I will be switching my hand washing routine going forward. On the ship especially I am a hand sanitizer nut.

Yes it was. Not sure why it was $69, I just paid it and didn't question it.

It might have been the difference in the rate between when you booked and when your friend booked. It probably went up.

Looking forward to your review. Do you happen to have the Fun Times?

I am on a 4 day cruise in September with sea day being the last day. I called carnival and asked specifically what day the elegant day was because my friends and I wanted to make hair appointments and was told it is the LAST DAY of the cruise, so evidentially it can be the last day.....otherwise Carnival will be refunding the hair appointment we booked.
I wouldn't trust this information. I've never heard of it being on the last night. They make soooo much money on photo sales from elegant night and people would not have a chance to purchase them if it was on the last night. The a lot of lost revenue that would be lost.

Last October we were at the port by 10 am. Had to wait til 10:30 am. Had FTTF.Just off the Conguest yesterday. We had FTTF, and arrived at 10:30. Was all checked in by 10:40, and then sat in the area set aside for FTTF. Diamond/Platinum/Suite guests boarded at 11:00. Called us at 11:05, I was on the ship with my first drink by 11:15 and in my room at 11:20.
Awesome. It seems like 10:30 is a logical time to get there then. If I have to wait, I have to wait, but if I can board then I'd rather be on the ship than sitting in my hotel room. :)
Thanks!

i read what you wrote wrong so my apologies on this
No worries. I did write it in a way that I could have meant either way.

I don't know how accurate this is, but it's worth a read. https://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/comments/31nkbn/is_there_a_technical_reason_why_surge_suppressors/
That explains it great. Thank you so much. It was an interesting read in lay mans terms.
This is from chengkp75 who is an expert in this fieldThe marine industry has known of this problem for a couple of years, as the USCG Safety Notice is from 2013:
Carnival has changed their wording of prohibited items about a year ago, and they are about the only line to specifically list surge suppressors as the culprit that everyone is looking for, when they take power strips away.
Here is a top notch description of what happens to surge suppressors when used in marine electrical systems, by a CC member who didn't believe me and researched it himself, and now understands and agrees:
http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2271143
I implore people not to take surge suppressors onboard ships. CaveDivings post describes how a surge suppressor that is apparently operating normally, and powering your appliances, when exposed to repeated low voltage (below the "protection" or "clamping" voltage the suppressor is designed to protect against) in the reverse direction to what is normal in shoreside wiring, can suddenly fail and burst into flames. The more you use a surge suppressor onboard ships, the more dangerous they become.
Wow, that was a lot of information. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. I just assumed that surge protectors were more preventative, but now I understand.
-
you should clarify this.. you bring one and it gets through. its NOT allowed and its dangerous
Ill try to dig up one of the many posts that explain it
Meaning, I bring an outlet tap, not a surge protector. This is what I bring, pretty sure it allowed.

Thanks for all your input. I was planning on getting there about 10:30, so that sounds about right based on your feedback. I know I won't be boarded then, but want to be there ready. :)
On 2 of my last three sailings from FLL, I wasn't able to board until 12:45 and 1:15PM, and that is with Diamond level. For some reason, Carnival has had delays getting everyone off the ship and through Customs in this port so it could be cleared for the next sailing.
Hope this doesn't happen to you.
Yea, I hope so too. This happened to us on our last Miami cruise. They were doing construction on the ship, but we were told a few days prior to sail date that there would be a delay. It surprising how they (carnival and customs) do this every week and still have delays. Nothing you can do but suck it up and know you'll soon be on the ship and it's better waiting to board than sitting behind the desk at work. :)
-
I'm curious. Why are surge not allowed? I would think they would be preferred over an electric tap. I bring one that turns one plug outlet into 3 and it's allowed. No hate, just education. :) Thanks.

These are some tips I found on another thread. Have fun!!!
Check out the Ol' Fashioned Barbecue location, Deck 10 (Panorama) above the Lido Deck buffet. It's free/included and often not discovered until Day 2 or 3. It's pretty good, especially for being included in the fare.
You can also check out the "secret decks," forward. These are publically accessible decks located beneath the bridge on the front of the ship, but they're not widely known. One of the few places on a Conquest-class ship where you can get a good view forward. Note that it can get quite windy up there, especially when the ship is cruising fast, and sometimes the access doors will be locked for safety.
Unless this has changed since last October, the Pizza Pirate kiosk (Deck 9, portside aft) will offer an expanded menu from 11pm 'til 1am that includes lasagna and another rotating item each night: meatball sub, chicken parmigiana, and at least one other item. The lasagna is quite good. This is labeled as "Pizza Pirate Plus" on their menu and it's also not well-known.
If you are in a hurry to get from the theater or casino to the comedy club, use the 4th deck walk through to bypass all the photographers. Enter by using the stairs at the mid ship elevators just outside the casino, turn right and go to the end of the passageway which opens to a lounge. Up one flight of stairs and your at the aft elevators and the alchemy bar just outside the comedy club.
If you're looking for a quiet place to lounge around outside, go up to deck 10. This is where the Serenity area is on other ships, but for now Conquest doesn't have a Serenity area (she will be getting one in October). There is some comfortable furniture underneath the overhang for shade and some lounge chairs in the sun in that area.

I hope the child will be alright. Good thing though that she landed on the deck below and not in the water.

What time does Ft. Lauderdale /Port Everglades allow you to enter. I have FTTF so would like to be there as early as allowed? Thanks!

There are pictures of it on this thread:

Would you be so kind and tell me what that is please? Thanks!
You go to a slot machine, load up the money that's left on your card as if you intend to gamble with it. There is not fee at the slot machines. Play one round and then cash out. Go to the booth and they will give you cash for you "winnings".

I racked up A LOT of coins/points when the game was new and they were easier to earn, been sitting on them for something worthwhile to pop up - hoping the Carnival rewards become more plentiful!
Same here. I started about 3 or 4r yrs ago when we were goibg to Vegas. It was so much looser then. They really made it harder to rack up points especially with the bonus games. I find it impossible now to complete the challenges past the first couple of rounds.
I still play because it's fun so I have a lot of points. Hopefully carnival will add stuff other that free cruises that I can use on my already book cruise.

I received the same letter. I just got back, we left on Aug 31 and with FTTF we were boarded at 11:15ish. Nothing was said to people about their baggage.
