  1. We did not arrive 3 hours before our flight - we arrived 2hours 25 minutes before our flight. Checkin had been done on line and the bag drop was not mega busy but we were only at the gate for a few minutes before boarding. We only stopped for a very quick breakfast. I would say that it would be sensible to adhere to the suggested 3 hours before departure but that only works if checkins/bag drop open 3 hours before departure - we waited 15 minutes for bag drop to open. We were a long time going through security which is getting stricter each time we fly.

    Sensible yes.

  2. Fail to see why your comment means it is not looking good any Captain must be able to communicate with any port authorities and all cruise ships wherever they dock be it for turnaround or just port call are open to on the spot inspections and if anything is found it has to be sorted or wont be able to leave the port. I fail to see the connection to 2 engine fires, hopefully small ones, and a bilge pump failing 2yrs ago on a different ship or are you just scaremongering.

So long as he can say, in unequivocal tones "abandon ship" you should be ok.

  3. As has been pointed out, the Scottish blue came into the flag about 100 years before Scotland joined with England and Wales to form the UK. So it's would hardly be necessary to cross it out if Scotland left the UK.

Do you think there will be another referendum?

  4. Sailed from Southampton a couple of years ago on Caribbean Princess & the authorities delayed departure for 24 hours due to a problem with a bilge pump - same Captain(Jonah) as on next sailing:eek::eek:.

BTW English is not his first language and he could not be understood, so much so that after an announcement, a staff member who was fluent and articulate in the English Language had to restate what he had just tried to say. Not looking good.

  5. Stayed at:-

Premier Inn Southampton North x 1

    Premier Inn Eastleigh x 1

    Holiday Inn Eastleigh x 1

Holiday Inn Herbert Walker Avenue x 6

    Dolphin x 4

Like both the Dolphin & Holiday Inn(HWA) but would also stay at Premier Inn West Quay.

  6. Now it is time for The UK Goverment to sort the "West Lothian " question. In a modern devolved UK, MPs not representing English Constituencies should not be allowed to vote in Matters which only concern England. In fact England should and must now have its own Parliment it is only fair and I as a very proud Scot and British would fully support that.

I totally agree with the above.

  7. I know you probably don't want to hear this, but drinking water on the flight instead of alcohol will see you getting off the other end feeling so much better. Alcohol doubles its strength at altitude. Ex-hostie speaking. Drink on the cruise not on the flight. :0)

An FAA study (PDF) found that both alcohol and altitude affect pilot performance, but there was no interaction between the two. Altitude does affect your ability to perform tasks, but that effect is present with or without alcohol. Another US government funded study found the same thing, concluding, “there was no synergistic interactive effect of alcohol and altitude on either breathalyzer readings or performance scores.” Ex pilot speaking.;)

  8. What about the 'priority' boarders? Suite passenger and Caribbean plus tier members who may or may not choose to book late, but get priority boarding because of their status no matter when they book? Will they no longer have this?

    Good point.

  9. Don't like this at all. As I always travel down the day before, I always turn up by 12 noon and have never had any problems even though I always seem to be given 3.30pm as a boarding time.

The day I am refused boarding when I turn up will be the last time I ever sail with P &O. hopefully they will allocate times but not enforce them.

    Same here.

  10. I notice it is just a trial which if successful will be rolled out to all ships. I suppose it is P&O's way of trying to introduce enforced boarding times like other cruise lines have introduced.

I think this is the only 'new' thing in pride and joy, apart from such stuff as changing cruise directors into entertainment managers.

In the case of Princess they have introduced them but are not enforced.
