  1. I am sailing on Fantasia from Barbados to Genoa. Since this journey is northbound the brochure states US$ is the on board currency. I recall a post stating that if the drinks package was 'All inclusive restaurant and bar drinks' then the currency would be Euro. Any idea as to what the currency is likely to be.

    Thanks.

  2. Whilst the original cause from the person first affected may be related to food poisoning, the rapid spread is caused by the infected person(s) touching surfaces (handles, hand rails, serving tongs etc) or even air borne if they have vomited in an area that you enter. Revolting though it sounds, the spread is caused by bodily fluids and poor personal hygiene, and is sadly relatively common on cruise ships, particularly during winter months. Food poisoning is a different issue and thankfully rarer.

The rapid spread is caused by eating the same food.

  3. I saw the latest Jane McDonald Cruising series on TV and noticed that she used a GoPro some of the time. Therefore, I was wondering if they are allowed on the ships or 'frowned upon'.

I think they would be really useful for taking selfies of us in the Fjords, or am I just being 'sad'!!! :-)

    Sad:D

  4. We were on Musica the last week of September this year and really enjoyed.

There was only one downside, we had to come home!!!

We flew in a day before and stayed in Smart Hotel Holidayl, Mastre. We arrived early in the morning and were able to book into the hotel. The hotel was only a few minutes from the tram and were able to sell us a 24 hour ticket for the tram and water bus for €20 each. Well worth having as you can jump on and off for 24 hours from when you first activate it. Just make sure you activate on every journey.

We went into Venice that afternoon and had a walk about but there were too many people about and didn't really enjoy it. Maybe some time we will go back for a few days.

The hotel offers transfer to the port in a minibus for something like €5 each. No lugging luggage over the bridges for us!!

Now the cruise. First of all it is what you make of it. We hadn't cruise for 10 years due to circumstance but really enjoyed it.

Don't do too many trips. There are plenty of walk off opportunities. So think about what you really want to see.

Americans, now friends, we met did 4 trips that week were exhausted as they didn't factor in the amount of walking required on some of them.

Even though there are no full sea days there are some half days at sea, enjoy them, relax, soak up the atmosphere and sun and the odd "lemonade".

Just go with an open mind like us and you will enjoy it.

Feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer as best I can.

Really helpful as we will be on Musica in a few weeks time and staying 2 nights at the Smart Hotel.

  5. Many thanks to all who replied.

Today, after many days of trying, I decided to have one last go to check-in on line and low and behold it worked. I still do not have any faith in the website and I will also confirm with MSC that I have actually checked in.

Not sure if it is standard MSC procedure but a) I now have to contact my TA to issue the e tickets and b) no cc details were asked for.

Thanks again for your help in this matter.

  6. I am sailing in 3 weeks time and when trying to complete the web check-in process I get the following response:-

Emergency email cannot be equal to your email or another passengers email.

Yet there is no box for me to infill the email details of the emergency contact.

  7. After my last cruise, just got back on Saturday from Britannia. I found there are 2 types of travellers the moaners and the people who just get on and enjoy. The moaners are tedious. With whats going on in the world I feel your pain with not having the correct tea in your cabin...............

There is a 3rd type - those with more money than sense paying more than £200ppn for a product that is 'propped up' by the parent company.

  8. Not sure why the Captain would need to take the blame for anything.

    Passenger safety is #1.

Sometimes there are mechanical issues with tenders.

    Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate.

Sometimes tendering operations need to be moved from one side (windward) of the ship to the other side of the ship (leeward) for tender/passenger safety. This takes time.

I agree bobbing around for 90 plus minutes in the heat and waves is not pleasant and people will get seasick.

As always - ever the supportive one.

  9. Hello Bea,

Thanks for the information. I am from the UK so the price is in pounds.

I have checked the my booking section and the rate for the deluxe package is £31 per night and the other package is £16 per night. Brochure price for the deluxe is £39 so that is a good saving on a 21 night cruise. No classic package is offered.

It looks like the currency is euro so would I be correct in assuming that the onboard prices are as shown in your other thread about Meraviglia.

  10. Thanks for posting and enjoy your cruise. Like you I’ve found very little information about this ship on CC and we have booked our first cruise(Grand Voyage) on MSC Musica sailing on 12 November 2017 from Venice to Rio de Janeiro.

A lot has been posted about drink prices on other ships but I’m not sure if these are fleet wide so if you get chance can you post photos of the drink prices and the drink packages in particular:-

    a) All Inclusive Deluxe Drink Package &

    b) All Inclusive Restaurant & Bar Drink Package.

Both of the above are available to be pre-paid and I would like to compare before I commit myself.

    Thanks again.

  11. I was also on this TA and thought the changes to Horizon court area were horrible IMO. Although they've made some more comfortable seating, it has taken up more seating space to do so. We were in a suite so we didn't have to fight the crowds at breakfast or lunch so much but ended up there for dinner couple of times. Very crowded on this particular formal night and almost impossible to get a table. What made it worse for me was that the food was really bad, especially at lunch. I only came away with some cheese cubes or tuna salad.

I think overall the food on Princess has really deteriorated over the past two years or so but I now cruise for transportation more than the cruise experience. We did speak with the customer service manager several times while on board for various issues which were resolved more or less.

    Totally agree.

  12. Did not try dinner, but never saw more than a handful of people there. But if you ate in the regular buffet for dinner, you could not eat in the Planks or Steamers portion of the area, so it limited available seating. I missed Cafe Caribe.

I'm presuming that only one side of the buffet is open for serving so if the seating is full can you take your food to sit in the other side.

  13. Nope cos that turned upside down for the caramel to end up on top!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Crème caramel, flan, or caramel pudding is a custard dessert with a layer of soft caramel on top, as opposed to crème brûlée, which is pudding with a hard caramel top.
