We have sailed with both P&O/Princess and booked our first cruise with MSC on Musica sailing from Venice to Rio de Janerio in November so if you can wait I will report back.:)
Also we did use the status match and got a black card with MSC due to being Elite on Princess.

Never heard of any other cruise line doing this......how bizarre!
Sent from my SM-J500FN using Forums mobile app
Yes that is MSC .... :) Dare to be different ... :DThey all do it.

Rosie ... When we make our bookings depending on cabin we usually ask that a note is added that we do not want an upgrade, I know this is a little different to your booking but may well be worth considering doing for any future bookings.
No Upgrade is just a request, NOT a guarantee. It means you will be moved to the bottom of your category if an upgrade is needed for yield management. If everyone in a cat marks no upgrade? No one is no upgrade...
You can always request your cabin back if it has not been assigned.

Both my wife & myself have used the status match system and been informed that we have black cards.
Recently booked my first MSC cruise and when I check the booking I am gold & she is black. Has anyone any idea of what is going on.
Thanks.

Arcadia('The Sloop John B') - This is the worst trip(ship) I've ever been on.

Kinda like the guy I saw in the buffet line taking shrimp with his fingers, eating them and double dipping them in the main container of cocktail sauce, licking his fingers off and doing it again.
The Captain?:)

Here's the map. You can get from Valparaiso to Rio without sailing around Cape Horn. While the cruise ships don't generally use the Strait of Magellan, it easy to see the passage that goes by Ushuaia. Been there, done that, twice. Got the t-shirt (once).
The Beagle Channel.

I would ask your neighbours to keep the noise down. Just a note under the door.

It probably was a passenger that brought norovirus on board. It is rife in the community round here at the moment, including at work, and you may be harbouring it for a day or two before symptoms appear.
3 cheers for P & O as they would not serve under cooked food nor would a crew member bring on norovirus - 'Cloud cuckoo land'.
-
They should cook the food properly but I have seen blood in under cooked chicken. IMO Norovirus is an excuse for food poisoning.
-
I just want to make sure I understand this correctly -
PC got his food poisoning from something at the buffet on the Diamond?
You also get Norovirus et al in the same place.

The door is hanging down beside the ship. It didn't off but is pointing straight down. No, the door was simply hanging down from the hinges not at the bottom of the ocean. It is now secured shut for the sail back to dry dock in Portland where it will be repaired.
Tom
Thanks for that I can see how the the hinge held it.

The door is at the bottom of the ocean.

Jim, I first encountered these at the Panama Canal in the 70s, but I don't think that was where they were first used. They are called dolos (more than 1... dolosse), the link below says it is a translation from Afrikaans meaning knuckle bones. Since it is on the internet it's gotta be true... right;)?
Tetrapods

Exactly! We were on the Grand to Hawaii and the next stop was dry dock. We brought on contractors in Hawaii and they immediately started pulling up carpet here and there. Computer techs were installing computers and pulling wire. There's always painting going on on the Promenade deck and 1/2 the time sections were quarantined off so no passengers could walk through all the way around (very irritating). So I don't buy it that Princess doesn't want pax on board, maybe they want a crew working 24/7 with no one on board but the contractors. They should just say so instead of making up lies.
You've hit the nail on the head.

IMO its rouge officers onboard these ships that attempt to cut corners.
I agree with the post that says its not directed from the corporate office.
'spin' from a cheerleader.

Surely the Captain is complicit.

I share your thoughts and feelings, cynbar. I've also read that cruise companies frequently comp Cruise Critic hosts with free cruises to curry favor with them.
Yes, a few years ago Royal Caribbean asked CC to give them the details of pro Royal Caribbean members.

No unfortunately not. Gammon is uncommon in Australia and I have never ever seen it on any menus. You can probably buy it through speciality butchers to have at home yourself but not when dining out.
If you love your meat though especially ham/pork then stop in at The Lowenbrau in The Rocks (near cruise terminal, 5 min walk) which is a German restaurant and they do the most amazing meat platters *drool* or you can't go wrong with the Pork knuckle - crackling heaven.
Thanks for your help and recommendation.

Ok,
If you have a specific cuisine you're after let me know and I can advise.
Braliza,
Can you get gammon steaks(not sure what they are called in AUS) but in UK they are normally grilled or fried and served with egg/pinapple.
Thanks.
