I'm a cruise fanatic, but I totally disagree. Universal Studios is primarily an outdoor event. Even when indoors, you're with different people all the time, not confined with the same people for seven days. Sporting events are also typically outdoors and last a short period of time. That said, you've been lucky. Norovirus is NOT limited to cruise ships, but it's where outbreaks most often occur because the SAME people are in close proximity for a LONG time. Remember when this all started? Large numbers of cruise passengers became stranded as the virus ran rampant through the ship and they were not permitted to dock and disembark. Who wants to be part of that? I am a budget traveler by necessity and I sure don't want my big vacation investment to become a nightmare. My cruise is over a year away, so I hope not to be impacted beyond the disappointment of finding many great local tours I'd have enjoyed have been forced out of business by the virus. (So sad...) But if this is still going on, I would absolutely cancel before final payment. I don't understand the objection to the vaccine requirement. No one balks at having to get shots to travel to countries abroad. It's a choice. So is this. I wish RCCL would stand their ground.

It is how you look at it. There are people who look at cruising as an entitled comfort with price meaning nothing and others as a luxury on a budget to do.

    Drama????

    I got vaccinated.

Like I said, if you have no compassion for your fellow citizens, it is hardly surprising the world is the mess it is.

8 billion people...And the those living the best spill endless champagne in a 4 ounce glass with it overflowing spouting how they feel the pain.

Good point. This could be an issue at any port.  You can get on the ship, but must show proof of vaccination to go ashore!

But I don’t cruise the Caribbean for the ports, so maybe others won’t mind staying on the ship.

Cruises going to their cays in short duration will make out.  Shorter ones will profit. It is for the more economically minded and /or partying people.  The cruise lines know this. But the longer cruises are in the way because of the politics of people who want more power.

I think their solution of bringing the crew to the ports in the US and vaccinating them in huge groups was a great idea.  I am also sure the crew members were appreciative to get the vaccines since they aren't as easily available in many parts of the world.

i have skin allergies. my family was eating at an MDR dinner on Royal and a ship lady employee was suggesting a seafood product. I told her I had allergies and she got nervous. And thought she would get fired. At least that was her reaction.

The better question is difficulty getting crew who are vaccinated, since vaccines can be hard to come by in other countries. and 6 weeks or more delay even if the countries had vaccines. I doubt there is a shortage of workers willing to get vaccinated. They have been without work or stimulus for over a year.

If the men and women who work on the ships need the vaccines, it would be prudent to offer their families in their home countries that option if they wanted it and there was no access.

Fully agree with you Tom.  The more that are vaccinated, the less of a chance of masks, social distancing and bubble excursions needed.  But the anti jabbers like Florida Eagle think that their rights are being trampled on, but if what they wish turns into reality, then the rights of the vaccinated will be trampled on via having to wear masks, social distance and bubble excursions.

You undervalue what the media, entertainers and Politicians have done o0ver the last dozen years or so. There has been an affect.

  7. Local news TV stations are running near 24 hrs a day "take your shot " beggings". Advertising for free gifts with your shots by companies. Employees being goosed to get the shot. Yeah...this is a real pandemic. People re affected. Depending on age and immunity and issues. We lost control of our government to overlords a long time ago.

I'm looking forward to the freedom of cruising next month.

Freedom is earned and with vigilance. A civilian public school teacher earning a hundred thousand dollars a year and a Catholic school nun earning a few thousand are two different vouchers. Loving a job for some true belief over just working a job for human pay scales. I mean for fifty years now we are graduating idiots our of inner city schools. And I would probably want to be educated by the public school system if I had a choice.

  9. I got sent to the naughty room three times on the Covid issue with this site. To me until my death, liberty and freedom is the main issue. Even though we are not that. I do not want to upset anyone. And be ignorant. Cruising is freedom. To do what we want! The people in charge being in our faces is not good. To all of you ion the vax side...loosen up.

  10. All of you should remember what happened to flying as a passenger on an airline after 9/11. The TSA, the Patriot Act, Homeland Security and the total revulsion by people on airlines towards passengers that appeared after. With passengers being more and more of the same. Nickel and Diming expanded aggravating passengers with those trying to save a few bucks putting their luggage in the passenger compartment with added costs as options.  But then we get into diversity. Well on cruise ships you better get ready for all types of games by people. You guys who cruise a lot. Do you ever talk to people who do not tip a cent?

Not you personally - you as a representative of the group that says “I’ve got my rights” or “The governor is protecting our rights.”

I don’t  mean to offend. I genuinely do not understand the thinking.

Something is fundamentally broken in this country when we cannot recognize a common threat and work together to defeat it.

I fear we are being divided to our great peril.

A good start would be for the media and entertainers to tone it down. It is clear they are 95% on one side. And they convinced a lot of people of their way.

I agree with all except the can't get vaxxed. If you can't get vaxxed being 12 or older, YOU do not get to cruise. It is as simple as that.

So one minute under your 12th  birthday Covid will be non existent. And the threat according to you no relevant. Look, to think safe I do not think it is wrong to say those vaxxed should cruise. However my trust in the lying system we live in means that after a short time would the unvaxxed be able to go on the same cruises as the vaxxed. Cruise companies make money by diverse cruises. The shorter ones are moneymakers and together with the longer ones keep a whole bunch of people happy with lower prices.

amen.  Feel the exact same way.

People do have some interesting views on this whole covid situation.  I have a son who refused to get the vaccine due to the hysterical rhetoric back in the late winter early spring that you still must mask and social distance with vaccine.  I have another son who wears a mask while vaccinated because he doesn't want to be associated with the maskless deplorables.  It is really fascinating to read different reactions to masks and vaccines.

    Government has become supermarket tabloid.

  14. When we all go on a cruise, we are given the utmost freedom by the people who run the cruise lines and the crew of the ship we are on. When we do not hear of them that means they are doing their job. We all know there are thousands of lines of rules in the agreements we sign. The cruise industry makes money on all cruises. The cruises that may have a higher chance of non vaxxers means a loss of revenue if denied in the long run. The shorter cruises are revenue busters to enable cheaper longer cruises. That is a win win.

I respect your opinion, but we simply differ on this point as I think it does. There are many places where people work hard their whole lives but due to poor economics and/or corrupt governments, it is impossible to accumulate wealth. The fact that these people can't change their governments doesn't make them personally responsible for the poor economy.  I am privileged, in my opinion, to be born and be a citizen of the USA where, in exchange for my work, I can have really, really, REALLY great stuff and experiences.

I understand that my parents were here and provided for me. But I, personally, didn't work hard to be born here. I am lucky to have been born into the land of opportunity.  Likewise, someone born in, say, Madagascar or Burundi didn't do anything to be born there either, and yet, there they are more or less stuck there, and even if they are willing to work hard, it may be impossible for them to achieve what I might consider even the most basic decent standard of living, much less ever leave or take a cruise ship vacation - yes, even a 3-night cruise to Nassau on a Fantasy class ship.  The fact that their parents are responsible for creating them in that place, doesn't make them any less deserving, at birth, than I was, for the chance at a great life.

Simply the fact that cruise line crew are very willing and grateful to leave their families for long contracts to provide me with the vacation, illustrates the difference between the haves and the have nots. I don't feel guilty for being who or what or where I am, but I do feel fortunate and know I won the cosmic roll of the dice, life wise.

Cecil Rhodes of Britain coined a phrase essentially that citizens of that nation won the Lottery in the 19th Century. I have to say that in the late 18th Century with the HMS Bounty out of Britain and visiting Tahiti, it was not bad to be a citizen of Tahiti.

Neither a SS number nor a covid certificate could identify a specific person. You can't authenticate a person's identity by either.

The Privacy Act of 1974 does deal with SS number usage as far a government entities are concerned.

You have to believe that. And that entails trust.  To many "You don't know who I am" self important people.

Not a fan of the new look. It looks dated to me. Particularly the tacky "Mardi Gras" in the big swirly letters. That really looks bad. I prefer the clean, classy, white hulls.

Not a terribly significant change in the big scheme of things however, so not really worried about it.

White paint on cruise ships looks best. It stands out in the ocean.

  18. If the Room Attendant leaves an envelope on the last day of the cruise, even if you pre pay the gratuities, would that would be for a reason that they may feel to be underpaid? Looking at it from their perspective. Or something different.

question about getting a double-if I have Cheers can I just pay for the extra shot?

(I fullly intend to make sure to be $friends$ with the staff by that time)

I read I believe somewhere on these forums that a poster ordered a double drink that was supposed to have two shots or extra alcohol in it but also had non alcoholic ingredients. He asked for the drink without the non alcoholic ingredients in it and got it.
