I am one who was completely freaked out by Covid. I was scared to death of it. Now? I'm much calmer and don't fear it like I did. So, that in mind, I'm OK with no vaccine passports in the US. I understand why they'd be needed to travel out-of-country, but not in-country. Yet can we as a nation decide for other countries we visit (via cruise ship) what their requirements should be? It's a tough one.

We have let people into our nation with illnesses and diseases once eradicated here. And they have started again. To see other nations not accept us is something to ponder. And they definitely need our money.

It is not untested.  It has been tested in clinical trials and evidence has been established that it is both safe and effective.  Both Moderna and Pfizer will be submitting further data for final FDA approval within a few months.  What will be the challenge then when folks can't say it only has emergency use approval?

How many years do we wait to see if there are going to be long term side effects: 2 years, 5 years, 15 years, 25 years?  There are not too many vaccines or medical drugs or treatments out there that have an absolute iron-clad 100% guarantee that there may not be side effects years down the road, but we take them anyway.  Good lord, we take them now when there's a multi-page, small print disclosure of every possible side effect known to man, including death.  We take them because the benefit outweighs the risk.  And the approved vaccines for COVID have established just that.

Taking the vaccine is important because it will allow us to achieve herd immunity and maybe, just maybe, get out of this mess before we have more dangerous variants pop up.  I believe that it is our obligation as citizens of this country to do what is best for the common good.  That's an obligation that comes with the freedom and liberty we have been granted.  Not on a soapbox, just my opinion.

Many people have lost trust in media and entertainment people who they once admired. We should have total information on this virus with all of the media, entertainers, politicians and other son the same page. This became fodder as the riots are, for the election. And more then that there is good percentage of voters in this nation who believe it was stolen. Making headwinds with that is not easy.

Virtual muster drills would be cool.

Also, at the buffets, having the food served.  I'm sorry, but I'm way too tired of seeing people lick their fingers, then grab the next serving utensil.  Or coughing/sneezing into their hands, then grab the next serving utensil.  I know that just adds to the jobs of the ship employees, but it's very disgusting, even pre-pandemic.

There can be less to choose from in total but more main course meats as a choice to being served. I would believe that cafeteria style would not last that long and a return to the old style buffet would return at some point.

A carrot works better than a stick. A check for proof of vaccine would motivate many, maybe a tax deduction, or better yet, a free actual passport (fees waived) for those who are vaccinated and are fine with providing proof of vaccination when signing up/renewing and then put some seal of some kind on it. There are plenty of creative ways to motivate folks. Requiring wouldn't work and would go over about as well as voter suppression or limiting free speech...lol. A surefire way to evoke defiance. The carrot is much better.

There are people of Religion who would be suggesting you are pushing biblical scripture. Rewarding obedience to the all powerful state. It takes all kinds, right.

One definition of herd immunity is each case of covid spreads to less than one person. Then eventually you get to zero IFFFFFFFFFFFFFF people aren't stupid. It is easy to lose herd immunity if people party like it is 2019 and the virus has a chance to take off again. You still have to be careful.

Fauci (spelled correctly) shot down what? About 50% of USA and UK have at least one jab. The US is ahead in fully vaccinated people. The US is nowhere close to herd immunity. One reason is too many states opening too much, too soon. Too many people ignoring simple instructions. Too many refusing the vaccine. UK and Israel don't have as much of a problem.

If people are constantly demeaned, you should not be frustrated when they rebel.

Yes I had googled it and says that on the application. Apparently its $60 for the 7 day cruise as i said.

There are people who cruise who are not fond of Nassau or Freeport as they have been to those places a few times. I guess the Cruise line owned Cays would be included in this.

This two classes thing is a political talking point. And yes, the Supreme Court said over a hundred years ago that schools could require students to be vaccinated, so it's not a novel idea.

This era is not the same. We are a divided nation and we will never unify again unless by force of a despot leader. No so called red state owes no so called blue state a damn thing. Time will change more of the red states who are being purposely invaded... blue.

It will probably be like that for a very long time on ships if not forever. Because after all masks are the only way to protect against Covid lawsuits, colds, covid and flu and even noro and they know it.

Can you imagine the amount of trouble this will cause onboard?. Forget under paid security who hate our American, English and European wealth and entitlement telling you what to do for 3 bucks and hour maybe or however much. Can you imagine another passenger telling you what to do. People are gonna get killed I think.

The potential for violence on ships is possible. Ships in Florida  fill up on people driving from South Georgia and Florida to their ports. Some of these people have different views. Sime of the people who have different views will tumble. To try to iron things out on forums like this even though it was not designed for this, is preferable to dealing with it on cruise ships. We all go to have fun and relax.  It is tragic that politics has been jacked up over the last decade or so and everything we do is of division.

No, they won't be charged full wharfage, etc.  They will have to pay additional hours for line handlers, and perhaps the standby tugs, if required by the port, and maybe additional hours at the dock.  The real reason against this is that most slips are not wide enough for a cruise ship to turn around in, so the ship would have to move out to the turning basin, turn around, and come back into the slip.

I read what I typed once on these forums some time ago. But if you are right then I stand corrected.

Say many who are 300 pounds with a body mass index of 900 with a cigarette hanging  from their lip sipping Jack Daniel's with four cheeseburgers on their plate in front of them. "I don't know what that vaccine will do long term to my body." 🙄

I did not even consider that. Unfortunately cruising can have some out of shape people. This adds another issue to the cruise industry.

Thanks. That is helpful. I couldn’t figure out how turning the ship around would help.

There may be new charges to disconnect the ship once docked then to reconnect after the turn around. That is part of the taxes, fuel and port fees that we pay. As you know captain's will wait for "Pier Runners" for a finite amount of time. But once disconnected from the port they will not come back because they are charged the same exact fees they paid from the original docking.

Adds confusion to say summer starts on Memorial Day, as it was originally always May 30th.  Now it is the last Monday in May, so Memorial Day can be 5 days sooner than it used to be.  Perhaps this is to allow for global warming.

In many communities at the shore, Memorial Day marks the beginning of renting season. In the Northeast at times it can be chilly or warm when it opens.

Q2 2022 does make senses from a logical point of view. We will likely first see the start up of cruises out of Florida and even when Winter is approaching with flu season etc it might not be a priority to start offering cruises in the Winter months out of Bayonne or Baltimore for instance and wait with this until next year.

One of the benefits if there are any in this Covid time is that the hygiene of people has improved a bit. That could reduce potential Norovirus outbreaks on ships.

Cutting the ships in half?  😉

That ship was cut in half for that section to be added.  Lido decks are good parts of the ship if done right.  There is no problem sitting on that one for several hours during the day relaxing.

Perhaps because covid has managed to kill more than ten times as many people last year as flu in a really bad year. Hopefully with emerging therapeutics and long lasting vaccines it will only be a year or two before we can treat covid like a really bad flu.

There are people who do not believe that. Although there are people who believe this is not a natural virus and it was released by a Chinese Lab. And if natural, it usually takes more time to get a vaccine anyway. If men and women are cautious, it is because of our current climate of distrust.

What is life like for those of you who are avid RCL cruisers here in the Tampa Bay area?

We are recent Diamond Plus transplants from the US Northeast. Looking to learn from the experiences of other local residents.

Took one cruise from there. Carnival Paradise several years ago. Most of the passengers were within several years one way or the other of my then age. Late 50's. Some lots and at least one parking garage at the time. There was some road construction to ease traffic at the time. Near Ybor City. It is about two hours from the port to the Skyway Bridge when the ship departs. Some people will go to the highest point of the ship to see the bottom of the bridge as it passes underneath. For some reason it attracts some people with interest and it is a bit cool. And I read about it on the cruise critic forums.

We should both complement him on the fine job he is going getting vaccines distributed and taking public health seriously. Thank God someone is.

And therein lies the problem. The 95% Prog controlled media is the Ministry of Truth to the great unwashed. The previous guy was fought tooth and nail on everything he did. And the Politicians dragged their feet with the Progs not even working with him. Don't worry, the swamp is back...pass the word the swamp is back...

Actually I was told I was judgemental against people who choose to not get passports. Somehow people knew a lot of carnival cruisers dont have passports so cant cruise from other Caribbean ports. I think also discrimination for saying if it was important to them they would get them. Just a few weeks ago the sentiment was very strongly against carnival moving off shore, though lately this past week or so the sentiment seems to be changing. I was ripped from one side to another over the passport issue.

I wasnt judging any more than I am over the vaccine. Like it or not you may need both to cruise before nov 1st when the cso lifts, unless you are a child, then just a covid test to board.

It is a shame politics is involved. And it may come to that when people are on a cruise. There are people who have views on freedoms and liberty.  It is not just about say letting people into our nation. It may be trying to escape from it at some point.

That was well over a year ago. No cruise line is innocent - they have all been busted and all knew better.

To let the companies do it themselves is fine. if government need to gently push them that is fine.  Giving the government control will up the costs of cruising big time and only add a few per cent more of improvement over what the cruise line will do on its own.

I will give you that but ask a question back. How many people who are uninsured in America and have suffered with this will now have massive bills to pay. Or how many people may see health insurance costs increase because of it?

There are tens of millions of people who never spent a cent in taxes and insurance who have gotten medical care that has cost many dollars. The real question is how much medical costs go up annually behind the scenes even with national health insurance? We live in a politically divisive unhealthy society in our nation. A nation of jealousies and beliefs that some one other is getting over on the next guy. So arguments will occur on having operations based on race, gender and everything else you can think of as the costs rise more and more and the government has to restrict medical treatments at different levels. And then the lawyers....oh the lawyers...

So you think it’s a conspiracy??

Would that be Deep State or just regular??

Why require vaccinations at all if you’re also going to board unvaccinated carriers?

For me it is the constant disinformation over the years and decades by people who benefit from it. All coastal areas were supposed to be submerged in water now by the edicts of elites back around 1970. A beach in New Jersey I went to which was thin enough and with high tide the water was under the boardwalk still exists. Half of Florida was supposed to be under water by now.  Building on barrier islands. Think why they are barrier islands. We love living closer to the ocean and visiting the same areas. The earth is what it is. And there are heartless tyrants who enrich themselves on the peasants. We elected people who are gonna make many poorer but keep telling us they are on our side. Anything in that is privileged is by those who work in those positions. And that is multicultural. But we have people who did not do as good and now we went from equality to equity. China will be our rulers in a couple of decades.

Some examples for the United States...

    1) A business can require shirts and shoes to be worn in a business open to the public. It's not discriminatory to refuse entry and service to someone who refuses to wear a shirt or shoes.

    2) A business can exclude people from using their restroom facilities unless that person is a current customer of the business. It's not discriminatory to withhold services to those who are not customers.

Now it should probably be noted that none of the sailings currently planned by Royal Caribbean are subject to US laws at all. There are international conventions governing various rules and regulations and enforcement at sea, in international waters, but none of that is going to matter a whole lot at boarding time.

But it's simply downright idiotic for someone to get all huffy about vaccination requirements right now. Fine, we understand you dislike being told to do something. Get a grip. The alternative is nobody, not just you, will be able to di it. With vaccination requirements in place for now, you at least have the option should you so choose. Without them, there would be no option and no sailings you could take, at all, till some unspecified future time.

The issue is believing the architects of fear. lie after lie and changing views and there are people who believe it. It could be true. But believing things through politics overwhelms common sense even if right.
