  1. We will be ending a Celebrity cruise in Buenos Aires next year .................................

Does the immigration process take long? .................

I would be most grateful for any opinions from those with experience of this port.

Thank you very much for your help.

Our experience of the immigration process was just being waved through without anyone stamping our passports. This caused problems when we went through immigration at the airport - having to explain how we arrived in the country. All cruise passengers had the same experience and we figure it may have been "pay-back" for our cruise having visited the Falklands.

  2. Four years ago, my wife and I were in the exact same situation as you. We decided to give Seabourn a chance. We cruised on the Sojourn. Big mistake. For us, the most important factors in a vacation are food quality and comfort, and Seabourn was below average in both. We have cruised with Celebrity twice, so I have a good basis of comparison. As far as food goes, the Seabourn buffet and MDR are better than the equivalent venues on Celebrity, however, the food quality in the specialty restaurants on the Celebrity ships was far better than what was offered in any venue on the Sojourn. If you like good wine, you will be extremely disappointed with the included wines on Seabourn. The comfort of the cabins was similar between the two lines, but neither approach the luxury found on other high end cruise lines or hotels.

    As for your specific questions

Excursions are not included, and they were mostly misses. We have done essentially the same itinerary on seven different lines, and the excursions offered by Seabourn on this itinerary were below average.

I find small ship life to be boring. The entertainment is minimal. It is all about having conversations with your fellow passengers or watching programs on the television in your stateroom. You might find it hard to relate to a group of people whose children will be significantly older than you two. The casino is a joke and is rarely used. Compared to Celebrity, the quality and variety of shows and other entertainment are quite poor on Seabourn. If you are at all an active person, Seabourn is the wrong cruise line.

During our ten days, the weather was quite good. No rain and mild winds. Nonetheless, there is a big difference in the stability of an M class and the Sojourn. You will notice a lot more motion on the Sojourn. My wife has rarely, if ever, felt queasy on any of our other 17 cruises, but felt ill twice on the Sojourn due to motion sickness.

I would highly encourage you to take the advice that several others have offered. If you want to see Egypt, go by land and stay in nice hotels.

18 Cruises and this is your first post???

  3. Spot on !!!

I have met a good deal of interesting people on cruises but can not for the life of me remember what they were were wearing.

  4. I'm really tired of reading what a gentleman would do. A gentleman is kind, considerate of other peoples' feelings, well mannered and polite. If he's wearing casual clothes while acting as above it makes no difference.

    Well said!!

  5. $220 US for a group bus tour of Rio? Outrageous.

First of all, hope for a clear day.

Just take a taxi to Cosme Velho for the Christ statue.

Have lunch at Porcao in Ipanema.

    Taxi to Sugarloaf.

If time, go walk around in the downtown area to see some of the historic buildings.

If you want to hire a private guide with a car, none better than Rafa.

Yes, we have a private tour booked with Rafa for our upcoming trip. A private car, which can take 4 is $400 USD. We booked through AnyRoad.

  6. Does anyone know whether it is still possible to have a picnic lunch made up to take off the ship?

Only in France, not in any country where food laws are strict.

    Thanks.

We had Lunch Boxes to take on our day trip to Petra earlier this year (Legend). From memory it was a sandwich, a piece of fruit, a couple of biscuits and a bottle of water.

  7. One word of caution about taxi drivers in BA. We took one from our hotel to the port and the taxi driver took us to the commercial port and was unsure where the cruise terminal was. We ultimately got to where we wanted to go, but with some difficulty & dispute for fees. Thus, make sure the driver knows where to go.

Great advice. The good thing about http://www.buenosairestaxis.com/city-tours/ for those of us with VERY limited Spanish, is that English is their first language.

  8. I see it's under new management. Viewing the pictures on line, I think they've updated the rooms....they look even nicer than when we were there.

Let me know if you decide on this one (just curiosity).

We stayed at Abode a couple of years a go and were very happy. I received this email earlier this year re the change in ownership....

    Hello,

I'm Orlando , the new owner of Abode since the month of June, I'm french and I speak spanish and english.I'm following the B&B launched by David and Zoe 6 years ago.

It will be more or less in the same style of what David & Zoe did.

It would be a pleasure to receive you if you come back in Buenos Aires one day.

Here's the new email of Abode : abodeorlando@gmail.com

We'll be back in BA in Feb 15, and have chosen to stay at the Duque Hotel because of its reviews and its closeness to the Domestic Airport. We'll stay there one night either side of a 2 day trip to Iguazu Falls, before joining our cruise.

  9. The Fauna has stairs, correct? An elevator?

Reception is at street level and, as I remember it, there were rooms one flight below, some at street level and some one floor up. I would ask for one at street level or above & preferably one with a view. We thought the location was great, near lots of restaurants and very close to the Concepcion Funicular.

I should add we are in our 60's and I am "none too fit"!!

  10. Marita B, I think those books are still used. We were on Sojourn last July and saw the books at the restaurants. The waiters would look and then call us by name on the next table visit. They use the pics taken at check-in and learned our names very quickly.

You have to marvel at how the crew put names to faces given the quality of those check-in pictures. I'd like to think I looked nothing like mine.
