Have just been advised by Seabourn that our cruise next march there will be two addition stops in the amazon. They will be Boca dos Botos for three hours and Guajara for four hours and are said to be "service calls ". I presume one is perhaps for refueling although as the ship is two days at Manaus I would have thought it would be done there,But as the two ports are only a couple of days apart the both could not be refueling.
Has anybody any idea what they maybe for and has anybody been to either port as I cannot find any info on line.
Many thanks :D
Maybe to take on water??? The ship is unable to use its desalination equipment on the Amazon.

Many thanks.
I'm embarrassed. I misread the dates. Thank you for including the pdf...I didn't dream it.....I just misread it.
I would still contact Seabourn and request another copy of the last mailing to your Club numbers. The brochure we received for Alaska are for dates after June 2017.

A few days ago, we received a fold-open sales brochure from Seabourn, hyping six or seven winter 2017/18 South America and Antarctica cruises, the expedition team, pictures of kayaks among the ice, etc. AND it listed significantly lower fares if booked early; I think the deadline was Nov 15.
We were interested, asked our TA, and he called. The person he spoke with was completely unaware of any promotions, and said there were no price changes "in the system". My TA asked me to give details of the mailing, maybe some mailing code on the bottom, etc. ALAS, I couldn't find it....it must have jumped into the junkmail trash.
Did I dream it?? I really don't think so. If anyone remembers anything like this, and can come up with copy, please help! Many thanks....
Whilst we didn't receive this particular brochure, we did receive one for Alaska, with the offer expiring Nov 15th, so I am guessing you didn't dream it. Edited to add that maybe you can chase it up via your Club Number, as I suspect it might be targeted marketing based on previous questionnaires,

The cruise we changed to was actually cheaper than our original one and it didn't seem to cause a problem.
If you have a booking for December 2016 my understanding is that you can change the deposit over onto a cruise departing any time up to December 2017.
Hope you can get sorted out tomorrow.
According to my TA, the current Seabourn transfer terms and conditions are...
The cruise must be transferred prior to 90 days before departure.
The new cruise must be at least half of the duration of the current cruise booked.

Automatic flushing toilets. I hate having to handle the lid (especially in the public areas) in order to flush the toilet.

On a recent Odyssey b2b, we had to book a guarantee and ended up in a connecting suite for 43 nites. We feared the worst yet our experience was the best! We had different next door neighbours for each segment, yet we didn't hear any noise from either of them. Except for the locked door inside our room, we never would have known we were in a connecting suite.
Mmmm, I wonder if we might have been neighbours? We sailed from LA to Barcelona in a connecting suite on Odyssey earlier this year. We took duct tape "just in case" but never heard a thing.

Many thanks - done that and mine is showing GTY, mind you, still got 69 days to go :D
.......but who is counting??? :)

Well I was looking extremely ripped that cruise so maybe. The pity is other guests don't get to see the benefit although it does say come as you are in whatever state of dress or undress for the block party......
I think I may have just found the solution to getting them stopped Mr L. You on deck 10, me on deck 4 in our underpants and shower caps :)
Henry :)
How funny, YES PLEASE!!

The Diamond Extended sounds great for a long cruse. Got a question, we are looking at a 45 day cruise that is also two separate cruises. We're not booking a back to back but, a cruise that shows available at the full 45 days.
Question is if we book the 45 day cruise and pay for the Diamond Extended when we board, does the internet then extend for the full 45 days and not cut off when we get the new passengers for their shorter cruise.
Thanks in advance,
Yes it does.

Actually "The Lady in The Van" - brilliant comedy by Alan Bennett starring the incomparable Dame Maggie Smith - whom most American viewers will be aware of as the remarkable Dowager Lady Grantham. Hope you saw it and hope you enjoyed.
We did indeed, and enjoyed it very much. We are HUGE fans of both Dame Maggie Smith and Alan Bennett. We were also lucky enough to see Dame Maggie perform live in Allan Bennett's 'Love among the Lentils', one of his Monologue 'Talking Head' series.
Hope you and Jan are both well. We could do with you on our Trivia team.

that will be in the Grand Salon, not "under the stars".........
You are quite correct, I realised my mistake as soon as I logged off......no more late night postings!!
-
A bit random but does Seabourn still do this? Remember this quite a while back but not seen or heard anything about it for quite a while. Thought it was great when we experienced it out in the blue yonder under a limitless sky
Yes, Odyssey is showing 'Lady in a Van' tonight at 9.30pm.

I know Heather leaves the Quest at the end of April - I believe she does one cruise after the dry dock. That would put Jan already in Europe and able to make the switch.
I'll ask again, but my info came from someone who was in a good position to know.
I spoke to Jan today, she is only on Odyssey until Barcelona and then Handre comes back. If she told me where she was next I have forgotten, sorry - put it down to exemplary service by bar staff!!!

I am confused about the dread. Did something terrible happen with the other couple joining them? Did they hog all the food, or unhygienically contaminate the shared plates? Or were they just terrible company!
Cannot people, in the new venue set-up, just say " thanks, but my husband and I prefer to dine alone tonight" or, if someone looks like he is almost certainly likely to be a huge eater, ask for larger servings in advance as if it would be for you whereas you really just want to make sure there will be abundance for the bigger person?...................
It was the couple who were asked to join the other couple that ended up with the dread. This couple had just sat themselves at a table set for four, alongside another couple sitting at a table set for four. After a polite nod of recognition and a "hello", the couple who had been seated longest asked, "would you like to join us?" and they didn't know how to decline. No Maitre'D or waiter was involved. I don't think there was anymore to it other than a table that became very overcrowded with wine glasses & platters of food, a long conversation about the weather where each lived and the awkwardness of each having to dish up their own meal.
Our observation has been that at tables where there are more than 2 people, food seems to go uneaten, perhaps because everyone is reluctant to be seen to dish themselves too much.

jenidallas, and others who have commented, your views on the TK food are very helpful to those of us who will be sailing fairly soon. I have made notes!
I am sure jeni you are right that the Ad Hoc type of food is more appreciated by Americans, and also possibly by those under, shall we say, 60. We are UK people, well over 60, but will certainly give some of these dishes a go, and actually knowing in advance what the 'style' is will avoid any surprises. I can readily imagine some of the rather stodgy oldies not liking it at all. I still think that probably TK has cost the company more than he was worth.
Look forward to reading more of your news in due course.
lincslady, my top tip for the "family style TK" is to dine at a table with only someone you know really well. We witnessed one poor couple, after saying "hello" as they passed the table of a couple they'd met earlier that day, being then asked to join that couple. How do you say no? I'd start practising now!! They have since told us they dare not step into the Colonnade again on a TK night.

I have - so far - enjoyed the Thomas Keller dishes I have tried on board. I have not tried them all as I've tried to be selective based on my own personal taste as well as the assessments of some dishes that I've heard from both other guests and servers. (Example, almost all of the Colonnade staff told me "the rib eye night is MUCH better than the rib night"). ...................... The dinner the other night consisted of things I remember eating as a kid at Sunday suppers and the like ..............
Jenidallas, I think you have provided very thoughtful feedback on the TK menus. We are currently on Odyssey, and, because there is so much we love and don't report on, I am very hesitant to post negative feedback.
However, I think you hit the nail on the head with your "One last observation I had about the Colonnade offerings. They seem to be more popular with Americans than with those from other countries. I think because of the nature of the food at Ad Hoc (childhood favorites) that it misses the mark for a global audience."
Childhood favourites for a younger generation perhaps??? We (about to hit 70) are still cooking these dishes at home, and for the first time ever on Seabourn (after the ribs, baked beans and corn something (which tasted like the sweet scones mentioned earlier) I felt I could have done a better job of it at home.

Current captain on Odyssey is Stig Betten. Handre was cruise director, but had to return home for a family matter. Sophie Tehrani was his assistant and is now in the CD role. The entertainers are assisting her with trivia.
Sophie debarks in Fort Lauderdale and Jan Stearman takes over.

...and the Odyssey will call on Funchal April 20.

(If I am allowed two bites at the cherry) EVERYBODY would say "PLEASE" and "THANK YOU". Day 6 of the current cruise and I am constantly amazed by what sound like barked orders (no PLEASE), BUT, then I will often hear a gracious, "thank you very much". Is this a cultural thing, some figure a "thank you" is all that is needed??????

You can have a toilet lid that closes automatically on land, so why not at sea? J
Perfick!!

Is there a "usual" time frame for the dreaded block parties?

...and what is wrong with Aussies??? Apart from thinking the answer was "Beetroot" instead of "Never having worked". Hope you and J have a great trip and good luck to "The Pheasant Pluckers" or whatever.
