  1. Imcpa, thanks for sharing your thoughts. We disembarked the Sojourn on June 4th, the cruise where the patio repair was attempted. We could see it deteriorating again as soon as the work was stopped. I would be very interested to know if you received any "inside information" from Wian (also one of our favourites) about how/when it may be repaired. We are due to sail on Sojourn again in January.

  2. We are booked on this cruise. There are no charges for landings if you aren't taking a ship's tour. Tenders are required at 7 ports.

There are 2 dedicated Ventures Days at 3 different places -Lady Franklin Island, Monumental Island and Akpatok Island, Nunavut, Canada. I don't think they include landing. Waterproof jackets aren't included, nor are gumboots.

  3. Looking for someone who has sailed this year and can comment on the binocular situation in cabins. I have read that you must request the binocs in advance; that those provided are not of good quality; and finally, when I called and requested them for our cabin, the res agent said she didn’t think they were providing them in cabins this year. Can someone who sailed this year please comment on this?

I can confirm binoculars aren't supplied. The shop was selling binoculars (? brand) for around $200, as well as the more expensive Swarovski brand.

  4. We are eagerly anticipating this great itinerary - two completely different cultures and spectacular scenery separated by plenty of sea days crossing the Baring Sea. Does anyone happen to know who Sojourn's Cruise Director is please?

Sophie is still on and currently suffering a cold.

  5. Instead of the Seabourn excursion, we took the Oli's Trolley tour which was basically the same but less expensive. The trolley is a guided tour and you can easily walk to the station. It books up so we bought ur tickets in advance.

Yes, I second this. Also, in Saguenay you musn't miss the show the locals put on. It seems the whole town is involved, with a cast of hundreds ranging in age from 5 to 80+................and several animals. You can read about it here

  6. I am fairly certain you are going to love your cruise. The atmosphere on board is fairly laid back. Passengers dress casually and for the weather during the day. Men require a jacket on formal night in the MDR only. On our upcoming cruise, which we are combing with a land based holiday we are going to keep our luggage to a minimum, so no Tux or Jacket, and I know from past experience we are not going to feel out of place. The crew are FANTASTIC and will make you feel at home. As a first timer you should check out the Referral thread at the top of this board...there you will find someone with a referral coupon to give away, giving you and them $400 OBC. Have a great cruise.

  7. I have posted this previously on the "Pricing Whiplash" thread. Our upcoming cruise was booked very early and the price then dropped significantly. Our TA only offered an upgrade and $300 OBC. We refused and said we would take it up with Seabourn. In my email I quoted back to them that they still advertise that they reward guests who book as early as possible with optimum savings.

I asked if this policy had now changed and if so we would never make an early booking again. The end result was a reduction of 4,500 GBP per person.

  8. Oh my, in one of those photos, I think I recognize, a gentleman that we met on our last Seabourn cruise. Nice guy! I’m sure he would not be thrilled to have his shirtless photo broadcast to everyone over the internet [emoji853]

I would not have noticed him if you hadn't mentioned it. Your post made me take another look. He was obviously happy enough to appear in public like that (as he should be).

  9. We noticed this week that SB lowered the price $700pp and offered a three category up grade, same offer we had when we booked. They told our TA that our category was sold out so they would not lower our price. Guess maybe we should not book early.

Our upcoming cruise was booked early and then had a significant price drop. Our UK Travel agent offered us a three category update and $300 credit. We said we would see if we could do better talking to Seabourn ourselves. In my email to Seabourn I mentioned that Seabourn still promotes that early bookings receive optimum savings, and, in the past they had been prepared to match a lower price when it occurred. I asked if the policy had changed, and if so we would never make an early booking again. The upshot of this was that we received a reduction in fares of 4,500 GBP pp!!

  10. We are in the process of planning for our June Baltic cruise. Have any of you been to Visby, Sweden or Turku, Finland? If you have been there, could you advise on what to do there? Take a SB excursion? Strike out on our own?

    Lots of suggestions on TripAdvisor

  11. I always apply for Pre-existing for me AF and DW’s Hashimoto which is an autoimmune disease but have never had to make a claim relating to these as they are controlled and never an issue (touch wood). Last year I dislocated my ankle skiing and they paid up but then I don’t think even an insurance company could ever related the two. I try to take out the insurance with the same company so they have a history, I hope this helps if any issue arises.

In the story above, the man who developed renal failure following heat stress, was denied insurance because he hadn't mentioned having had peritonitis some years earlier, which to me seems totally unrelated. As soon as the hospital realised his hospital bill could not be paid, they turned off his life support.

  12. ^^^^^ THIS!

I've never understood why people who are happy to spend several thousand on a cruise seem to tie themselves in knots trying to buy cheapo insurance (or any insurance at all). ..............As always, check and double check the small print because if the insurer can wriggle off the hook, they will.

  13. Hi Experienced Seabourn cruisers

We cruised on many lines but this have just booked our first cruise with Seabourn - Ovation . What should we know about this line that differs from others. I was surprised that "formal nights" still exist.

    All comments appreciated.

As a first timer with Seabourn, you are entitled to $400 onboard credit with a referral coupon. If you look at the top of this board you will see the "sticky thread" re referral coupons. Emptynester is offering one to a first time cruiser currently.

  14. We are doing this cruise next year, in the opposite direction. I would be very grateful if anyone can give me some idea of what overnights are offered, and approx. costs? We will never get to Africa again, so this will be only chance of visiting any Game Parks. The excursions for next years cruise are not available yet, so just some ideas of what we can hope for would be very appreciated.

We will be on that cruise as well and plan on visiting Addo Elephant Park from Port Elizabeth http://addopark.com/

We are staying on for the 12 day Cape Town to Cape Town as it has an overnight in Port Elizabeth, thus allowing more time for a visit.
