  1. Unfortunately some people become infected in the plane or the airport flying to the cruise. The virus has a two day incubation so one might feel just great when boarding and not show symptoms until a day later.

Yes, and there are always those who despite either feeling ill or having been ill will not admit it either because they fear not being allowed to board or simply think "it's no big deal." Then, of course, there are those who know they are ill, know they should not board but do not have travel insurance and don't want to lose the money they paid for their trip.

  2. I think you're recommendations make sense, but I'm not sure that it would be enough to really stop a noro outbreak that was bound to happen anyway. Think of all the other surfaces / areas it can spread... elevators, hand rails, casino, etc. I think the lines do an excellent job cleaning and trying to control it, but there's only so much you can do when one or more people bring it on board with them.

It's been done on HAL for as for at least 20+yrs on the sailings I have done with them and despite the normal seasonal outbreaks that occur every year, I can't remember them ever having the magnitude or occurrence of outbreaks that other cruise lines have. I could be wrong though...I am old and my memory isn't what it used to be

    ...lol

  3. Having been on the EOS sailing after the worst case Noro virus epidemic and experiencing firsthand the steps that were taken to ensure that it did not reappear on my sailing, I honestly think that if at least two of those steps were made standard on every sailing we would not see as many new and repeat occurrences of Noro.

Self-service in the Windjammer for the first 48 hrs after boarding (the incubation period for Noro) should be eliminated.

Condiments, salt, pepper, etc. in all dining areas should be packaged and disposable for the first 48 hours after boarding.

People are arriving from all over, many of which have been confined in other spaces where Noro can flourish, ie. airplanes, buses, the terminal itself, etc.

These two steps, while certainly not a cure-all protocol, would cut down on the potential for exposure to the Noro-virus.

Though it would cost RCCL to make these the standard protocol on their ships, in the long run, I think they would save money by not having to shorten cruises, do CDC deep-cleaning after a sailing, and issue a refund to so many people for being confined to their staterooms because of an outbreak.

What do you think? Any other suggestions?

  4. This was some sudden move with Quantum, I did not see this coming. Please tell me if I have this right. Quantum is coming here for a while, then its leaving and we are getting Freedom of the seas, and then when Anthem is finished being built we are getting that here in NJ? Are we keeping both Anthem and Freedom or just Anthem is staying here? Do I have any of this straight because I'm a bit confused? Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Quantum is going to China at the end of April 2015. Liberty of the Seas not Freedom of the Seas arrives and does late spring through early fall sailings. Anthem is scheduled to arrive in Nov. 2015 for the late fall into winter sailings. No decision has been published about where Anthem will be after the winter sailings of 2016.

  5. Here is my experience:

    GS 4 people July 12, 2014 sailing EX: $5500 with tax/port fees.

    GS 4 people July 11, 2015 sailing Liberty: $9500 with tax/port fees.

4k increase. I do not think I will get 4k worth of increased value. I do not see how Royal is computing this. They're throwing darts at a board again.

Yes, Marci, when I did my comparison,I didn't bother to look at 2014 prices just 2013. As I said earlier, the suite prices had jumped by $500. (JS) and up. Yes, in some cases it had doubled (RS) since 2013.

  6. Marci, like you, I am usually not restricted to traveling during peak times, but this cruise is a first family get together - my children and grandchildren had been patiently waiting since the first announcement of Quantum to be based in Bayonne for summer 2015 sailings. I couldn't bear to see the grandchildren's disappointment (Quantum was to be their first cruise) and make them wait until 2016 and hope that Anthem would be staying in Bayonne for that season, so I am paying the price for being a Grandma that keeps her promises; just wish it wasn't so expensive a price....lol.

  7. I took a few minutes to research the 5 night Bermuda sailing prices for August of 2013 on the Explorer and compared them to the same time period this year for Liberty. This is basically what I found.

With the exception of the suite categories (which rose anywhere from $500.pp and up) the balcony, outside, and interior cabin prices for Liberty this year rose anywhere from $200. to $300.pp as compared to the initial pricing on Explorer August 2013.

With one or two exceptions for inside categories that lasted for about a week (price drop of approximately $200. pp) and category Z which ended $40. pp cheaper than it began, there were no price drops for the other categories. On the contrary, prices ended anywhere from $60pp to $150.pp more by the time Explorer sailed. Insofar as I could tell, both August 2013 sailings were at full capacity.

I can only assume that given Explorer's booking history, the rising price for fuel, and the difference between a Freedom class versus Voyager, RCCL is projecting that the Liberty Bermuda sailings will do just as well as Explorer's did, perhaps even better.

If history proves to be true, the pricing on Liberty will go up, not down. :-(

  8. According to RCCL these were the planned upgrades done to Liberty when she was refurbished. Park Cafe is not among the listings.

    LIBERTY of the SEAS

    DreamWorks® Experience

    3D movie theater

    Outdoor movie screen

    Broadway shows

    Pervasive Wi-Fi

    Interactive TVs

    Nursery

    ImagineOcean! Puppet Shows

  9. Agree in principle, but I wanted a specific cabin. If it was unavailable I would have defaulted back to "any balcony will do" and not reserved yet. I suspect that there will still be a ton of unsold rooms.

Like you, I agree in principle, but this was a long-planned family cruise with my children and their kids that was originally planned to be held on the Quantum . When that got axed, I looked at Liberty and after recovering from the sticker shock for a 5 ni cruise, I booked now because I need specific cabin types and want them next to or as close as possible to one another. I am prepared to pay the price for all the cabins but am hoping for my pocketbooks sake that their a drops. Time will tell.

  10. According to the roll calls for these sailings - these have been cancelled. AussieVis2r was told:

They told me it had been cancelled (maybe a charter) and that I could swap my booking to another sailing. She mentioned the 27th Oct with a similar itinerary, but it is not on the web site yet.

They will give me the same room category, for the price I paid, or the new price, whichever is cheaper. And $100 OBC ($200 for a suite).

The Oct 27th sailing will likely be the new TA from Southhampton to Bayonne.

  11. Apparently, according to the OCT 31, 2015 roll call, AussieVisi2R stated that the Oct. 31 TA Southhampton to FL has been cancelled and those who are on it are being given options to re book as follows:

  12. Yes I highly doubt QOS will be switching out of Bayonne. That would be crazy with all the $$$ being now to upgrade the pier area. All this speculation is frustrating for all of us for sure. Let's ALL hope that RCI finally announces the schedules for Summer 2015 end of April. And YES wow can only imagine the prices Marci, wow!

Perhaps Liberty and Quantum will share Bayonne for the 2016 Bermuda season with Liberty hitting Bermuda and Quantum doing everything else.

  13. Can anyone give me the exact address(es) from which C&A sends their special offers and announcements to members?

After yrs of them "researching" why, despite reentering and checking my email (they are not blocked on my computer and say it's a glitch on their system) I never get any emails from them, but get them from the Marketing Dept. I am going to research it on my end. I have an aol email through Time Warner Cable which I believe uses Roadrunner server
