  1. The social plan is very economical and I think worth the risk of slow internet to keep in touch with social media if that's your thing. We used to manage just fine for a week without any internet and you still can if you are strategic. If you stop in an American port (San Juan, St. Thomas, Alaska) then your carrier may treat you as in network and you can email all you want. If you take an excursion to a beach usually there will be wifi available. Also, you can just look for all the ships crew parked outside of Margaritaville or similar with their laptops & devices and enjoy "free internet" as they do in ports. So, I think it comes down to how "in touch" you need to be and what you are willing to spend.

  2. I was on the Legen in June. I really don't know what the big deal is about the decor. I thought the ship was fine. The enchanted forest walkway is a bit much but you don't have to visit it. The ship has lots of places to sit quietly by yourself or in a group . The ship is easy to get around. The Serenity Deck is very nice and there is an adult only hot tub in the gym.

  3. I don't know when you are sailing but here is my experience. I am warm natured. I sailed to Alaska on May 30. It was so warm in our cabin we often slept with the balcony door propped open. We had great (sunny) weather all but one day (Skagway). We wore long sleeves and a lightweight jacket for the morning on our Yukon excursion (highly recommend). Jackets were not needed later in the day. The day it rained in Skagway I wore a lightweight rain jacket over a long-sleeve shirt. It was not warm enough for adults to experience the pool (but kids used the under roof one). There is an adult only hot tub in the gym. The Serenity deck is a great place to dine from the Buffet if you don't like crowds. I took a regular blanket for covering up on the balcony when watching the sail through the fjords. The inside areas of the ship were as warm as any Carribean cruise I have been on so unless you are cruising outside decks evening wear should be what makes you comfortable inside. Everybody suggests taking things you can layer because you really won't know the weather in the ports until after you are on the ship.

  4. Thermostat in cabin (by the way, we never had an issue with being either hot or cold on the ship).

Thanks for the great review. I am sailing this ship in December. Every cruise I have been on I have had trouble being cool enough in the cabin. (Actually slept with the balcony door propped open while on a cruise to Alaska because it was too warm in the room). I saw the digital thermostat and am hoping they have better control than the old school ones.

  5. We cruise every year the week before the holiday...different ships....they do a lot of holiday things, have lots of decorations, songs, scavenger hunts, gingerbread cookie decorating, games, holiday parade etc....story time in front of the tree at night with kids in PJ's....DS has grown up with this tradition now (14 at this time) since he was little and is now part of our whole tradition to jump start the holiday for our family....its fun.....;p

Thanks! We are on this cruise this year and it is our first holiday cruise. Looking forward to all the fun!

  6. Gosh this thread got nasty! I just want to chime in on my experience (no comment on any comments). Took my 18 yo son on a cruise. We have different last names. He stayed in a cabin by himself. He has his own passport. Did not experience any issues. Just FYI 19 is an adult in Alabama. Been through the courts with this one so I am quite sure.

  7. Personally, I like to decorate the door. The main reason is I get turned around so easy on the ship and sometimes get the numbers for the room mixed up. Seeing the door decoration assures me even a few doors down that I am in the right place. I am less likely to put my key card in someone else's door.

  8. I agree it is what you are comfortable with and a lot of people are uncomfortable if they are in an environment where others are dressed differently. I was on the Legend on May 30 and the couple we were seated with wore t-shirts and jeans to casual nights and on elegant nights I think they might have had on collared shirts and pants. I still dressed up for elegant night because I enjoyed it and wanted pictures. I enjoyed wearing my leggings on the cruise with a tunic because it was so comfortable (I usually did not change for dinner for casual nights on sea days). We spent a lot of time while on sea days laying around relaxing or watching scenery. It might have beenbecause the demographic is more largely retired couples but the MDR seemed a lot more casual than previous (mostly Caribbean)_ cruises I've been on.

  9. They have these stone loungers that are heated that you can lie on and look out at the ocean and relax or read and it is quiet except for maybe some relaxing music. Great place to escape. Not much conversation in the pool either because of the noise of the water. I would say the only con is the price. Worth it for me. Less crowds.

  10. Could you explain this please?

Oh. I read on CC that you should prop the cabinet open the fridge is in with a washcloth to allow air circulation and thus improve the cooling of fridge. My previous experience was these fridges barely dropped the temp below room temp but propping the door open helps.

  11. I sailed on the Legend in May. Steward implied that we had the choice of am or pm. We chose am and didn't push for twice daily. Several times during the week we were in our cabin during morning service and he came back in the evening when we were at dinner. If he cleaned in the am the Fun Times was left in the mail basket in the evening. FYI: We did not have an ice bucket in the room at all but were fine without ice. The fridge was empty and the washcloth on the door did well at keeping the water in the Fridge and some wine cold.

  12. I think this comes down to personal comfort level and whether all the adults in your group are willing to work together to make it doable and comfortable for everyone. That said, there are a lot of sitting areas on the Legend all over the ship. It is easy to find a quiet spot to get away from your room and sit and watch the water or read for hours. The gym area is also a good option for showering, etc. Packing light will be a must. Something I didn't do well on my most recent Legend trip to AK. Make a commitment to stay out of each other's way and an effort to allow each of you some alone time (or privacy for the couple) during each day and to get together for meals or excursions. Pace yourself with your togetherness in other words. I myself have two teenage children who I adore but a week in a cabin with both of them I would never be able to handle.
