Smoking on Spirit?

Hello! I was wondering if there's anyone who's been in on NCL Spirit reasonably recently and can comment on the smoking situation? I have heard that there is smoking in public areas (not just the casino). I know Europeans smoke more. But I'm quite sensitive to cigarette smoke, so it could be a deal-breaker for me.

I'm specifically looking at a winter sailing to the Canary Islands out of Barcelona, if anyone has any experience with that sailing.

You are right that European's smoke more but they are also do not follow the smoking rules and will no doubt be smoking on their balconies ans all over the open ares as we witnessed on our South American cruise.

While we detest second hand smoke we didn't find it to be in our face. But DO AVOID CASINO.

The only place that I recall even noticing smoke is on the promenade deck where people tend to hang around, especially outside Henry’s Pub.

I think there are some areas on the top deck where smoking is allowed, maybe near the bar above the pool deck (can’t remember the name), but I can’t say I’ve ever really noticed it.

I don't know where you heard this rumour but I can tell you, from somebody who was on the same cruise at the end of November last year, that it is completely untrue.

Smoking was limited to the Casino and small section outside on one of the decks, I can't remember if there was a tobacco room or not.

From a European ex-smoker and his smoker spouse.

Unfortunately NCL has the most liberal of all cruise lines.....regardless of ships.

Yes, Europeans generally smoke more but there is no reason to suspect that the ship will be full of Europeans only.

We did a cruise out of New Orleans and there were a tremendous amount of smokers aboard and they were mainly American.

I think smokers know NCL has lax smoking policy.

I was on the Spirit last week cruising around the Mediterranean, from Barcelona. Smoking was only in the designated areas (outside) or the casino. I didn't encounter anything elsewhere - and have a high sensitivity to it because of asthma, so would probably have noticed it.

If you are referring to my post we were beside an aft penthouse which was a corner unit the pax and ALL their relatives and friends were coming and going all night smoking on their balcony, I thought at one point that they had announced a new pope as the white smoke was that noticeable.

They were smoking at the pool and putting their cigs out on the deck and stepping on them.
