Late ship arrival in St. Thomas - what to do at night?

Cruising in August on the Caribbean Princess. Scheduled hours in St. Thomas are 12:30pm - 10:00pm. Since most shore excursions will happen during the afternoon, what is there to do in the evening? Shopping, restaurants, bars, or shows? I've read that the shops closed around 5pm & I think it gets dark around 7pm. Any chance the shops will stay open later to accomodate our passengers?

Also - there are 5 ships in port that day, I think, but the other 4 don't stay so late. Does that make it really overcrowded to do any of these things in Charlotte Amalie?

What about safety?

Thanks for the help!

Shops and restaurants near the port usually stay open after 5 if there's a late ship.

There's now a bowling alley across the street from Princess (Havensight) dock. It's open until 10 pm, I think. Some restaurants at Havensight have live music or theme nights some days.

Havensight is a popular destination for locals and visitors because of parking and security.
