happy_travellers Posted March 29, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2018 We are hoping to rent a car with pick up at dock. Any suggestions? Would love to go to great beach, beach bar and other scenic sights. Other thought is to go to Resort on day pass. Thanks for info and suggestions. Sny Posted April 6, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2018 It's an easy island to explore on your own. If you don't want to rent a vehicle, there is a public bus that goes around the island, with lots of stops.
SusieKIslandGirl Posted April 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2018 We had a 12 night stay on Rarotonga and loved it. It is a quiet island with not really a lot to do other than the wonderful beaches. We did take a nice snorkel tour. The buses (there are 2) that circle the island go clockwise and counterclockwise. The complete circle takes an hour. Just remember you are on the left side of the road and roundabouts can be a little tricky. The good part is the speed limit is only about 30 mph. The locals are used to tourists and put up with our slow driving. Lots of scooters too. There are a couple of rental locations not too far from the tender pier. dabear Posted May 4, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2018 We spent a day in Rarotonga a few years ago on a cruise stop. We rented a small car (that's all they had & all you need) and drove around easily on the island, I think we stopped at a resort at Muri Beach (?) and went swimming, etc. DW also did some shopping and bought a nice black pearl necklace(less expensive than in Society Islands). We were told diving was not too good there.
