What is the condition of the island?

I was there last week on the Serenade. The french side is much worse than the Dutch side. Front street was opened as the boardwalk. Some stores were still closed but they were working on them. A store owner told me they didn't have customers for four months! So please get off the ship and spend some money...

In your opinion what makes the French side "much worse than the Dutch side"? Is it the sheer damage, clean up speed, number of people effected, amount of $ damage?

The Flamingo and Royal Palm time share resorts are scheduled to reopen on Dec 31,2019, the Cliff condominium which has 10 or 12 floors is going to be another 6-9 months before re-opening. Then there is the Sapphire time share that has very few liveable units, the pummeled Ocean Club and Summit resorts and The Maho Sonesta resort is basically bare bones and hopeful for a fall opening. The airports main building is not up and running yet and at least 2 Casinos are still being repaired and the Maho strip has only a very few places open. Those are off the top of my head and all on the Dutch side. These for the most part were substantial buildings. These buildings held and were visited by many people.

In my opinion you can't judge the damage on the Dutch side by looking at Philipsburg only and not visiting or considering the damage to the Maho and Cupecoy areas which were especially hard hit.

I don't doubt that more buildings were destroyed on the French side. The message that I think is being missed is the size of the buildings on the Dutch side that were destroyed. It's really incomprehensible.
