New Years Eve on the Independence of the seas

I just wanted to post this for others to know about what goes on on board for a New Years Eve Cruise. I was looking on Cruise critic before we went and found some very varied info so I figured I'd post this.

Wer'e Diamond level, almost Diamond plus. Been on a lot of RC cruises. My second on the Independence. This was a 5 day western Caribbean. . On the day leading up to New Years eve they've got a big table setup in the promenade selling champagne bottle service and seats for the big party. Here's what they offered, they setup long tables along the promenade (dubbed Times sq for the evening) .They sell you a seat with champagne and horderves for the entire evening for $175.00 PP plus tax and 18% gratuities. That was too much for us, so we went to Giovanni for a late dinner till 11:00 and headed for the promenade it was mobbed with almost everyone on board. We made our way to the middle and along the sides were all the people that paid for the table service. They were all having fun and seemed to have plenty of champagne but were crammed in with people that didn't pay standing all around them. Glad we didn't go for the table service But, RC did step up nicely for New Years, At every dinner venue including the Windjammer they had tables of party hats, noise makers streamers for everyone (and they didn't charge you for it !!!!) Just before midnight waiters came out to the promenade with champagne for everyone. They did a big count down, balloons dropped. The captain and crew were out on the walkway bridge over the promenade toasting to everyone. It was very nicely done, Kudos to RC. Right after they told everyone that it was the end of the party there and it was moving to Studio B for music and dancing. Very smart move because the crew came out and cleaned that place up in a few hours and it was spotless. Also, all the other bars were open on the ship and you could go hang out if you could find a seat. There was also a big celebration and music on the pool deck. We didn't get to see what was going on there. One note, the Viking lounge on deck 14 was made a quite zone. No music, no party. The bar was open and you could watch the party out on the pool deck. Overall there were things to do all over and RC did a very nice job.

175 dollars is nuts! Champagne is cheap; our last cruise on Indy in December there were two opportunities for 2 dollar mimosas in the Casino Bar only (which were mostly champagne). People (including us) bought like 10 for 20 bucks....
