Tikibird Posted August 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2014 I understand that the ATMs give USD and since the cruise takes place in the Med we can get Euros at any ATM in port. We are from Australia and need to acquire about $1000 USD cash for a trip that we are doing after the cruise. I would prefer to use a credit card with no Forex fee (we have several like this) than our bank accounts and I would prefer that this happen as a charge and not a cash advance. Since we would have to pay a fee to exchange the Aussie $ for US $ back home, we are prepared to pay a nominal fee as long as it isn't ridiculous. Is there any way to get USD cash on the ship and charge it to our shipboard account? Via the casino maybe?

You can use your room card at the Casino to take out $1,000. in cash and they will just charge it to your account, however, they will also charge your account a fee of 3% to do this. Harriet Unless there has been a change , the 3% doesn't apply in Europe.
garycarla Posted August 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2014 Credit card at casino with 3% charge. Use ATM , pay about $6 service charge. As mentioned, do not use Credit Card in ATM as those charges are much higher.

If you use your personal credit card the costs are more than putting it on your room as you'll have to pay the CC fees, etc. Putting in on your room is only a 3% fee, if I'm not mistaken. And, as you said, ATM for that amount of money is something I wouldn't suggest. Harriet

Hmmm, I thought the 3% was a fee the ship charged....not the credit card company.....so I thought it was fleet wide - no matter where you cruised. Maybe this is something new? Harriet If you do a normal room charge that goes to your credit card, it is treated the same as a retail charge - not a cash advance. Therefore, no extra CC fees. If you do a cash advance on your credit card, the fees get very, very bad.

Going to the Casino and asking to charge $1,000 on your room would only generate a 3% charge and no additional charges. I think we're both saying the same thing. LOL A cash advance at the Casino with a credit card, I agree, fees very high. ATM at the Casino for $1,000 would be high as well, I believe since you'd have the ATM fees plus your CC fees. Tikibird Posted September 3, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted September 3, 2014 I can handle the 3% surcharge, I'd have to pay some kind of commission to a money changer anyway and they would want cash. This way I get airline miles and 45 interest free days! Is there a maximum per day? Is it per person or per cabin?

I believe it's a $2,000 daily limit that can be charged onto your on board account through CAS. Harriet

Plus....whatever your bank charges if they charge. Plus, most people don't have an ATM limit of more than $300-500 per day so they'd have to make many withdrawals through out their cruise. I also don't know if the ATM in the Casino has a limit of what can be withdrawn. I've never really used it. Harriet
