We will be going to cozumel in March 2018. We will arrive on the independence with royal. I'm assuming we will dock at the international pier. We'd like to stay at the pier. What bats/restaurants are there that we should visit. We are 4 adults away without kids. Looking for a good party place!

In Cozumel the bar that I usually hear about for the adult party crowd is Carlos & Charlie's. I visited it once. Inside it's a typical rave: dark, glowing neon lights, strobes, loud thumping music, lots of beer & liquor, dance floor / mosh pit, lots of bodies bumping together, you get the idea. It's located about 2 blocks from the Punta Langosta Mall Pier, which is where most of the cruise ships dock.

I have some other ideas, if you're not interested in that.

First there is no longer a Carlos & Charlie's located downtown. Only a Senior Frogs and it does have the party atmosphere you describe when there are ships in town. Plus it is NOT 2 blocks from Punta Langosta. It is around the corner from where the escalator is.

Secondly, "Punta Langosta Mall Pier, which is where most of the cruise ships dock" is not true. The busiest pier is the Carnival pier called Puerta Maya which can hold 3 ships. Next to it is the Internal Pier which is where most of the RCCL, Celebrity and a German cruise line called Mein Schiff docks. This pier holds two ships. These two piers are both located south of town and quite a long walk to town.

The Punta Langosta is the only cruise pier located downtown and usually this is where the NCL, Disney, MSC, Aida ships dock. This pier also holds two ships.

Any more than 7 ships docked in one day requires someone to get tendered in.

If you don't want to take a taxi downtown to visit Senior Frogs (or even Hooters next door), you can walk to a couple of fun bars located on the water that is just north of the two southern piers and very walkable.

Do a Google search and check them out. Also do a search in Google Maps to get an exact idea of the distance between everything.

Another fun place in town is The Thirsty Cougar but there a lots of places you can bar hop if you are going to town.

Thanks for bringing Turquoise bar to our attention. It’s been a couple of years since we were in Cozumel and there seem to be several new bars and restaurants! Blue Angel is one of our favorites in an evening, glad to see they continue to branch out.

Right at the pier is the new Margaritaville.

If you go out of the port and go south to the Carnival pier at Puerta Maya there are some other bars that people recommend. If you go north ( towards town) you will find the bars suggested above and Tikila Bar.

Otherwise you can get AI day passes to El CID or Park Royal, less than 5 minutes from pier.

Thanks

NCL generally (not always) docks downtown.

There are plenty of bars, some with ocean view, but no bars with sandy beaches.

Depends what you are looking for and how far you are prepared to walk? Otherwise it is a taxi ride to one of the southern beach bars.

Right...I forgot Margaritaville moved from downtown to the Carnival pier. That would definitely have an adult party vibe but why come all the way to Cozumel and hang out in an American bar?
This! Whatever floats your boat, but I'm not sure I'll ever understand why going to a place like this is such a pull. So many other choices.

My favourite is north of town called Buccanos.

Been 4 times, all 4 times we have went to Buccanos! Snorkeled and enjoyed great food. We are going back in a few weeks, thinking about doing something different, but its just hard to pass this place up for the cost! 25/pp to get there and back. food is great and reasonably priced, plus none of us drink ETOH!

Have you had to pay an entrance fee or for loungers, or have they stopped that?

Or do you just go without cruise ship towels?

Only paid the 25/pp for travel over there, nothing more. We love to snorkel and there isn't a charge, If you use a guide they work off tips and then take ton of pics and you "tip" them for that as well.

Oh I understand now! You are talking about $25 pp rate paid to the taxi driver/tour operator at the port?

The taxi fare is actually $32 return for 4 people, therefore $8 pp plus an entrance fee (recently reported to be $15) which includes snorkeling equipment for cruise ship visitors, whether you want it or not. For two people your rate works out better although cost effectiveness actually depends on how many in your party. I agree it is a great place but I will continue to save my visits for land vacations, or go to Playa Azul next door. So many choices on Cozumel.
