CaptainCampion Posted April 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2018 The ONLY thing my wife says she cares about on our upcoming September 7-day Norwegian Jewel cruise is trying to get close to whales. Any kind. :-) I'll do some of my own research but wondered if there was a particular port that would be the best to give this a shot? Thanks
Rare Essiesmom Posted April 13, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2018 There is a board here for Alaska under Ports of Call. Lots of good advice there. EM
Rare martincath Posted April 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2018 And when you go over to the Alaska board you'll see that both Juneau and Icy Strait Point have 100% success rates with humpbacks, all cruise season. It's very likely any cruise will hit at least one of those - Juneau is dang near a requirement for all cruise lines!

olemissreb Posted April 13, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2018 Glacier Winds out of Icy Strait Point has a 6 passenger boat that will take you out. We had a great time with them 5 years ago. We were the only ones out in an area where a baby whale was practicing his breaches. So cool!!!! If you are doing a one way and starting/ending in Seward, I also recommend a Kenai Fjords tour. We used Major Marine and saw orcas as well as humpbacks (I think). Of course we were there in June, so your mileage may vary in September.
