ikelmay Posted September 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2017 Has anyone any experience with an organised walking tour in Chania Town? I'm happy to do my own thing on our visit in October, but it's always more enjoyable with local guides. Thanks in advance
edinburgher Posted September 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2017 No replies so I am guessing that most have done their own thing here. Whilst having a private guide might add to your visit, Chania isn't very large and it is pleasant simply walking around exploring some of the streets in the old parts of town and the harbour area. There are of course some notable sights to visit too, including churches, museums and the Minoan ship. Websites such as Frommer's have DIY walks you can print off and take with you, otherwise simply googling something like "walking tours of Chania" will bring up several results. There might also be recommendations for guided walks on Tripadvisor.
Cruise Junky Posted September 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Sorry, I've done Chania by both ship and land trip but always did the town on our own. It's lovely to just walk around.

spuds Posted September 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2017 We had a lovely day in the Chania area with Chania Adventures. They picked us up at the port of Souda and we explored the region. Went to the small town of Vouves to see one of the oldest olive trees, learned about olive oil production in Crete, then had a small walk through one of the gorges and visited the Milia Mountain EcoLodge where we had a wonderful lunch. On the way back we stopped at St John the Hermit Cave/Church and because our cruise was leaving later in the evening our guide took us to Chania Harbour and we walked around the town, after that he returned us back to the port of Souda. It was one of the highlights of our 3 week vacation. If you want to see a bit more then just the Chania town I would highly recommend it.

dszrew Posted October 13, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 13, 2017 Taxi is 10 Euro flat fee. They drop you off at the exact same place as the city bus which is 1.70E one way or 3.40E round trip. We thought maybe the taxi might take us closer to the old town, but its a very short walk from the market and the taxi driver didn't understand us at all. Only problem with the bus is it's often full and you might have to stand or wait until it's time for it to leave. We saw 4 buses in the parking lot, but only one would fill at a time, sit there 10 minutes all full, and then finally leave on a schedule.
