Nuku'alofa tour

Recommended Posts

Hi

Trying to get a few people interested in doing a tour of Nuku'alofa

For anyone going on the Pacific Jewel on Oct 13 this year (Bounty

adventure) there is a company called Toni's tour which was recommended

to me by a fellow cruiser, that does a tour which encompasses beaches,

churches and historic sites...seems like it might be good but they only

take bookings for groups of 3 or more and there is only 2 of us so

if anyone is interested I can pass along booking info. The cost is

$50pp Tongan dollars (seems reasonable).

Anyone?:D

Seadreams we have done Toni's tour in Tonga twice and we enjoyed it both times, the roads were not the best but thats Tonga, have you checked your roll call if any one is interested in the tour....they have a duty free shop at the pier that sells cheap smokes

if you cant get any other takers for the tour there's plenty taxis at the pier

Yes I have posted on roll call..Bit of time till we sail

so might get some takers. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

Thought what a bargain price for a full day..would hate

to miss it..But if we do will take one of the taxi tours:D

Good to know about the cheap ciggies..Ta:p:D

what we did when we did the tour the driver took us to the ANZ atm and we withdrew the currency in their money and it only cost us about AUD$27 PP but that depends on the exchange rate

if you want smokes just near the boom gate as you leave the pier is a blue customs shed and thats where you buy them and they take AUD....not sure of the hours but we got back from our tour about 3pm and they were open

your next port is Vava'u and they have markets at the tender port and they were selling cartons of Longbeach for $26 so we got some more but they are a limited supply so if you require some buy them early.....there's taxis available at the pier for sightseeing also

Have just been to Nuku'alofa - and did Toni's tour ( which we recommend) . Nuku'alofa is definitely one town which I recommend that you get out of - hence Toni's tour is very good and great value. It lasted 7 hours for us. You can see more here from my Blog http://pacificpearltotahiti.blogspot.com/2011/07/nukualofa-tonga.html

Hi.

Thanks for the link..but I'm not on facebook,:o much to my

childrens disgust  Think i'll have to get my daughter to

set one up for me:p. In the meantime as it usually takes a while

to get kids to do anything for me, would you mind letting people

know that this is available.

Details; Toni's tour

e mail tonigh2@yahoo.co.uk

Web. www.tonisguesthouse.com

Tour cost $50pp Tonga dollars which I think is about $30 aud

You will be picked up at the ship in the morning, the tour includes

historic sites, churches and other points of interest. You will be

taken to a beach or two for swimming/snorkeling and they also

make sure that you are taken somewhere for lunch. You will be

taken back to the ship in time for departure.

Pretty good value, awhole day for a small outlay.

If you could pass this info on it would be much appreciated:)

Thank you.

Hi, Barry.

I thought that this being the case that there would of been a bit more

interest. Never mind, maybe if Brushtail can post on facebook, that

might get a bit of interest going.

Here's hoping:D

Hi Jenny.

Good to hear you want to do the tour:D

Just send a e-mail to the address in previous post and

Toni will book you in. You don't pay until the day of the tour

and if you don't have Tonga money on you he will even drive you

to a ATM:D So I've heard.

This is my email address if you want to contact me so that I can

exchange wine info and where we can meet before sailaway to

catch up and exchange wine and money: (petelorr at yahoodotcom)

(or payment before if you want)

Thanks so much:)

  • 3 weeks later...

Just a heads up, it could have just being our tour guy/taxi but he really had nowhere to show us at NukuAlofa. The place was pretty dissapointing and all the historical+sightseeing places other then the waterhole (which wasn't exactly the spectacular either) were within walking distance of where the ship docked.

So in the end we felt it was a waste of a tour and a port.

The tour operator you have may have more experience and know some places right out of town worth seeing though.

Something to consider as well is there are nearby islets that looked very pretty in the pictures but you have to get out early in order to book the tours.

Hi cruisin-m

There is a link in a previous post in this thread by Bazzaw

That was basically saying the same thing..which is why this

Toni's tour is good..it gets you out and about for the day and

you get to see things worth looking at rather then Nuku' alofa,

which seeems to have the general consensus of not a very pretty

or interesting place..Have you checked out his blog (bazzaw's)

..everyone that has done Toni's tour was very happy with it

and all reccomend it ..Sorry to hear your tour wasn't that good

maybe next time you could try Toni:)

Seadreams we have done Toni's tour twice and the last time was last april on the way to Hawaii, we had a good time but the roads are not the best....get Toni to take your group for lunch, it cost about $13 Tonga money for fish & chips or hamburgers....give him your lunch order when he picks up the group and when you arrive at the restaurant you wont have long to wait and people may have a time to go for a swim

Sounds great to us. I worked on the local ships in this area during the 1960 to 1980's. My wife and I are on this cruise and would like to be included in Toni's tours. :)

My wife is also interested in Scrabble in case anyone is interested.
