Where To Stay in Santiago and Buenos Aries?

A low cost option is the Globales Republica in Buenos Aires. If you go for the deluxe room it is still under $80 US and you get a great view of the Obelisk, a nice room and a good buffet breakfast.

We stayed there for a weekend and found it close to everything and safe to walk around.

We also stayed in Hotel Plaza San Francisco in Santiago and thoroughly enjoyed its old world charm and great central location. Its easily in walking distance of many sites and only minutes away from the metro that will take you to the more distant areas. They also have their own drivers who we used to get to the airport for $20 on the hotel bill, much better cars (and driver) than the Santiago taxis. I assume with advance notice they may also collect from the airport too.

Another option is an airbnb. We stayed in a nice 3 bedroom apartment downtown 4th floor for about $200 a night. Felt like a local by the end of our stay. A lot of things can be walked to, but cabs are dirt cheap. From EZE to downtown seems to be an hour or so any time of the day, so leaving where ever you stay 3 hours before your flight should be fine.

We stayed, three week ago, at the Hotel Boutique Castillo Rojo in Barrio Bella Vista in Santiago and loved it. I think we paid $117 well in advance. Lovely boutique hotel. Fantastic location for restaurants, sight seeing and night life. Check out Patio Bella Vista in the evening. Live music, dancing, great change to enjoy the Latin culture. Wine reception in the lounge each evening, warm staff, lovely rooms. You can go wrong. Not a American hotel in a foreign city.
