Lexicruiser Posted February 8, 2017 Author #2 Share Posted February 8, 2017 Anyone on these cruises in French Polynesia Marquesas islands. We were on Paul Gauguin a few years ago and loved FRench Polynesia. Would love to go back on Aranui 5? Thanks
Floridiana Posted March 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2017 I've been on the Aranui 2 and the Aranui 3, not yet on the Aranui 5 which looks like their fanciest ship. (Aranui 2 and 3 were sold, only Aranui 5 sails). I found it to be a wonderful trip. The Marquesas Islands are spectacular volcanic islands with lush valleys. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who still has a sense of adventure, after all this is a working freighter going to small villages without piers. On our 2 trips, we had only three ports with piers, all the others were tender ports. On Aranui 2 , the crew used wooden whale boats as tenders, the next time we had an aluminum landing boat. All excursions were included, most of them on local pick-up trucks. Lunch on shore was arranged for and included as well. We had it four times, twice as picnics and twice in restaurants. The Marquesas are not a beach destination, only the two atolls on the way there and back have beaches, bring water shoes because it is hard coral sand. Both trips count among the best I have ever taken.
