Viking Christmas Markets — Dining Room Dress Code for Dinner

We are taking my mom and sister on this cruise with us. It will be a first river cruise for all of us, and I am wondering about the dress code for dinner onboard. I have a feeling a nice pair of pants or skirt, with a nice top would be more than satisfactory. At least that’s what I am planning, but any insight that I can share with mom and sis would be most welcome.

I think your planned outfits sound fine and are indeed what I wore (Avalon Christmas Markets cruise). I will note very few other women wore dresses or skirts but I prefer them and always travel with them - I have some merino sweater dresses that are great for cool weather travel - never too hot or cold!

We suggest bringing comfortable, casual clothing. Ties and jackets are not required; there are no formal nights although some guests choose dressier clothing for the Captain’s Dinner. Consider dressing respectfully when visiting places of worship and other religious sites where you may be denied entry if wearing clothing considered to be inappropriate or too revealing. Your Tour Escort can assist you with any questions. Also, please consider baggage weight restrictions on the intra-China flights when packing.

I am about to leave for my 4th VRC so I can say I've seen it all.

Most people are smart casual. Slacks and a nice top and cardigan/blazer and a scarf will take you anywhere.

Men usually had khakis and a collared shirt/or polo shirt. Occasionally I saw a sport coat.

My DH wore either black dress pants, very dark dressy denim jeans or black denim with a collared shirt and occasionally a light weight pullover argyle sweater.

My attire was a little dressier than some since I work in scrubs so I never get a change to wear some of my things. My Viking "uniform" was a pair of black skinny ankle pants with dressy flats or heels...And a snazzy top and jewelry. I also did wear dark demin jeggings with dressed up top and shoes and in cooler weather leggings and a tunic or long top/cardigan.

See Chico's Brigitte ankle pants: They stretch, they're very comfortable, flattering and don't wrinkle. They come in ankle and capri length in many colors. Worth every penny.

The demographics vary on each cruise and therefore the personal style will vary. Anything remotely respectable is fine.

Jean are not uncommon.

Thanks ... I’ve got those Bridgett’s in black ankle and wear them quite a bit when cruising.

Here we are at dinner with friends on a Viking river cruise last December. Think casual. NO sport coats.

On my recent Viking cruise, people wore everything from jeans and tennis shoes to formal attire (one lady) to dinner. I aimed for changing into a clean shirt and fixing my make up, but didn't always have time after returning to the ship. I never got the disapproving raised eyebrow I sometimes get at the MDR on ocean cruises.
