a group of ladies are cruising-- we don't want to have to drive into the French Quarter area. Do you know of a place in the outlying areas that we can spend the night, leave our car on their lot for 5 nights, and get some kind of transportation to and from the port? Thanks!

What? You are going to miss all the wonderful things New Orleans has to offer? Beautiful city, full of history, culture, fine dining, music, along with lots of security to make it a safe & fun place.

There are hotels in the garden district, away from the French Quarter. You might try www.nola.com or www.neworleansonline.com for hotels & info or any other hotel sites. Lots of areas of town to stay in besides the Quarter.

OMG don't miss New Orleans. Food is great, try eating at the Court of 2 Sisters or Mulate's. You can't go to NO and miss everything. Great antique stores all along Royal Street (parallel to Bourbon) with wonderful chandeliers and other antiques not to be missed. Estate jewelery, all kinds of great stuff to see.

New Orleans is not just drinking and carousing, they have lots of things to see for people who don't want to party hard.

I have traveled there alone & spent several days....doiing all of the above and had a blast & was never worried about my safety.

I take it the OP is going on Sensation 5 day? Are you getting off the ship in Coz & Costa Maya?

Actually, I'm posting for a friend of mine, she asked me about the port of NO-- she had heard about congested the traffic is around the port, and expensive to park. These ladies have all been to NO numerous times before, just not for a cruise. So they're driving the few hours from home either the day of or the day before the cruise. Thanks for your input. Martha

We have stayed at the Riverwalk Hilton the night before and left our car parked there the entire cruise. For about $10 a taxi takes you around the corner to the terminal. The Hilton is attached to the Riverwalk Mall where you can safely shop and enjoy some good food the night before. All the flavor of The Quarter without any of the hassle.

There are many places to stay other than the french quarter. There arent many places in new orleans to stay and leave your vehicle for the time youre on the cruise. I would stay in Metairie La. just outside new orleans. About a 15 minute cab ride to the ships and you could leave your car parked there safe for no charge. The 1 hotel that is really nice that comes to mind is the landmark hotel. Plenty of free parking and very nice place to stay. Nick

I was looking a week or so ago and found a "Cruise n Park" special at the Holiday Inn in NO French Quarter. They didn't provide transportation to the port but it isn't far and they include 7 days free parking. It was 129.00 for 4 adults. If you need to stay overnight, I don't think you can beat this deal as parking is about 12-15 a day in the port lots. I have been to NO on several occasion, usually in charge of 8 teenage boys in town for a HS Jazz Band competition. It was a challenge keeping up with them and keeping them away from Bourbon street and, depending on the crowd, sometimes it was more of a challenge than others but I always felt relatively safe. However, that was always keeping in mind where I was, being stone cold sober and keeping my eyes open!

We are driving in the night before our Oct. 31st Sensatiion cruise and staying in Gretna at the La Quinta. I booked on-line for $79 a couple and they do provide complimentary parking for up to 7 days of cruising. Transportation to the pier (about 4 miles as I recall) is provided for $15 per couple. We plan on spending the day and evening before in the French Quarter and at Harrahs casino so don't think we'll be missing anything by staying in the outlying area. We're just sleeping for a few hours in Gretna and then getting shuttled to the ship.
