FolsomMike Posted July 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2018 We are staying at an airport hotel ( haven’t picked one yet) for one night after our cruise next June and would like to visit Ostia Antica which is just a few miles away. Does anyone know if their are tours to Antica with hotel pickup or any other easy way to get there from the airport area?
gkkapp Posted July 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2018 We were in Italy last October and spent several days in Fiumicino before our cruise. Visited Ostia Antica one of the days. We stayed at this hotal, the second time we have used them: http://www.comforthotelfiumicino.com/en/ It's nice hotel located close to shops and restaurants. They offer a shuttle to and from the airport. We had the hotel book a taxi to take us to Ostia Antica. The fare was a bit more then we thought something like 25-30 euros each way but it was the quickest way to do it. We arranged a pick up time with driver for the ride back. You cannot see Ostia in just an hour or so. It is very spread out with a lot of walking. It could also be hot on a summer's day. Not a lot of shade. It was well worth it, though. We had been to Pompeii twice so this was a nice change. Hope this helps. <<<Karen>>>

Trash Queen Posted August 14, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2018 We took the train and were able to be go and come without pre-arranged taxi times. Charlotte
euro cruiser Posted August 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Just to be clear, the train that goes to the airport does not have a stop near Ostia Antica. The train line with a stop there is the Roma Lido line, so if you want to stay at a hotel from which you can take the train to Ostia look at places along that line (Lido di Ostia would have the most options to choose from). cruising cockroach Posted August 15, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2018 Quite a few years ago, my wife and I did this trip. Bussed from the airport to Ostia where we caught the metro or commuter line one stop (IIRC) towards Rome to get to the archaeological site.
