tatt2ed Posted December 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 25, 2016 Mardi gras is a season not just one day. There are dozens of parades in the weeks preceeding fat tuesday. Yes some are better than others but you can also enjoy the city itself depending on your travel plans. We have gone 2 weekends prior to fat tuesday and done parades in baton rouge on friday and saturday then goto new orleans for a day of parades. Great times indeed ! cocacola86 Posted December 25, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted December 25, 2016 There's a cruise on the 11th and do Valentine's Day so if we go a couple of days before can still see lots of parades Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
jgmpuma Posted December 25, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 25, 2016 The most and best parades are on the weekend before Mardi Gras: Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday, and Monday night. Do a Google search for "Mardi Gras 2018" and you can get a complete schedule, routes, etc.

Langoustine Posted December 25, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 25, 2016 Take a look at this and plan accordingly: http://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/schedule.html Be aware (if you have children with you) that the celebrations can be a little...uninhibited. ekajun1957 Posted January 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 7, 2017 The best parades are actually on Thursday through Sunday. Monday which is called Lundi Gras has a great time up on the river with bands and arrival of the Kings of Rex and Zulu. Mardi Gras day has the Rex Parade which is good and traditional but that day is great for walking the French Quarter and taking in all the costumes. Being the 7 day cruises leave on Sunday either going before or after you have some down time. There is a a 5 day Triumph leaving on Monday the 12th. So without any more specifics of how much time off you can get, length of cruise interested in, cost expectations etc. , hard to say. The very best I would say is cruise before get in two Sundays before Mardi Gras. Couple of quiet days in New Orleans then stay until after the Sunday or until after it is all over.
