KurtMo Posted November 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2017 X website is down (marginal decrease in functionality versus when it is "working" ;)), but received an email that St. Maarten was being replaced with St. Kitts for our scheduled 2/1/18 port call. No other changes to the itinerary. Just a heads-up for those out there who may have had the notice go to their junk mail folder.
Rare hcat Posted November 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2017 We cancelled that cruise before final payment, but hoped that might happen. St. Maarten really not ready to host cruise ships. St Kitts is a great alternate. Enjoy the cruise!

Do you have other recommendations for St. Kitts? If you want a good non-ship sponsored beach day, try Carambola Beach Club in South Friars Bay. An $8 PP each way 20 minute cab ride from the pier. (Cab stand is about 2-3 blocks in from the pier on the right side behind the stores) The facilities are excellent and free with a somewhat upscale restaurant and bar, bathroom and showers. Chairs and umbrellas can be rented for a nominal fee. Very well known and dependable to and from cab arrangements. A half mile walk down the beach is the Shipwreck Bar and Grill with inexpensive and good food and drinks. Done this a few times and have enjoyed it as a relaxing beach day with good food and drinks available.

Rare hcat Posted November 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2017 (edited) hcat - we've only been to St. Kitts once, and did the Thenford Gray island tour (good tour). Do you have other recommendations for St. Kitts? We've done the usual tours, local flea market, small town areas and a few local resorts......have to recall the names..easy to find out about them..Main drawback is getting taxis to take you back to the port..they prefer the beach runs! We walked back last time...we had time it was downhill and safe,,Awesome spot, great lunch, nice drinks , views, gardens and pool...but not much shade! Here is the one I had in mind http://www.palmscourtgardens.com/pool_-_day_pass It's a fav for the spa staff of Carnival,,,quiet in the am...livelier after lunch,,highky rec, But pre arrange a taxi or plan to walk back to ship.. Previously we went to a local resort right on the Marriot golf course..,no day pass charge...just enjoyed lunch, swim up bar and walked path along sude of golf course to beach.,Met a variety of travelers who were staying there. Very low key.,Downside, took a long time for a taxi back to the ship...I will try to find the name.,,was several yrs ago. Maybe Frigate Bay Resort? Yup....Frigate Bay Resort...ate at Jasmines.. https://m.facebook.com/Frigate-Bay-Resort-St-Kitts-130488671659/ And theres the Marriot Day Pass..check the port board Edited November 11, 2017 by hcat

Yes - very nice as well with the advantage of being in the proximity of town and the pier. Walkable back to the ship if need be.
