Rebels82 Posted April 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2018 We are capable of walking 4 to 5 miles. Logistically, what is easiest way to do the Cliff Walk after we tender in? Where should we start and finish? Can we walk to “starting” point? Thanks.
Nitemare Posted April 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2018 This site says it's a long walk from the dock to the Cliff Walk: https://www.whatsinport.com/Newport-Rhode-Island.htm My knowledge of Newport confirms you don't want to spend all of your walking time just getting to/from the Cliff Walk
Cranch Posted April 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2018 The public buses (RIPTA) run right out of the Gateway Center, a few minutes walk from the tender. Bus 67 runs twice an hour and stops near the best part of the Cliff Walk, which is between Narragansett Avenue and the Marble House. Both can be seen on the route map at this link: https://www.ripta.com/
Something fun! Posted April 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2018 I would start the Cliff Walk by Easton's Beach. There also happens to be awesome lobster rolls at the beach concession bldg btw. You could even break up the walk with The Breakers. The opposite end involves more climbing/walking on rocks and such. Salve Regina U has nice bathrooms if you are desperate too. Rebels82 Posted April 17, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted April 17, 2018 What is the closest Yellow Line #67 bus stop to Easton's Beach? If we start there, where do we finish? Thanks!
Something fun! Posted April 17, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2018 What is the closest Yellow Line #67 bus stop to Easton's Beach? If we start there, where do we finish? Thanks! Get off the bus at Bellvue and Memorial Blvd. This stop is also near the Tennis Hall of Fame on Bellvue. It is worth taking a free peek in at the courts even if you don't want to pay to go in the museum. You walk down Memorial Blvd toward the beach to the Cliff Walk. It is a flat, then downhill walk on sidewalks. You can start the Cliff Walk on the right before continuing further down the hill to the beach or if you go to the beach you will return half way back up the hill to start. Since you say you are capable of walking a good distance, you can either divert near the end of the walk, or complete the final more rugged portion. Either choice will put you near the Bellvue Ave/Ledge Rd bus stop for the return ride.
