Radiance - 8508 or 7564, Please Help with Two Bad Cabins

Recommended Posts

Can anyone please confirm with me this balcony is half the size of a regular side balcony.

I have it on hold but think I may release the cabin.

I have a Deck 7 balcony booked but it is 7564, which isn't great either.

There are no E3s left for my sailing but final payment is on Sunday.

Do you think I should release my Deck 8 E3 (please, if you can look at the Deck Plan) and wait to see if something opens after final payment or move from 7564.

Which is the lesser of two evils.

Please help.

Thanks.

There isn't anything wrong with 7564. What do you think is wrong with it?

I definitely wouldn't want the other one. Why not upgrade to E1 7600. Best cabin in the price range

I definitely wouldn't take the cabin on deck 8...my preference is to be as close to midship if I can.

While 7564 isn't a prime location, it isn't bad. My only concern if I were staying in that cabin would be noise from the casino below. I'm not saying there WILL be noise, just that I'd be concerned about it if it were me...

Some people also don't like those balcony cabins on deck 7 because of the lifeboat cover that prevents a view straight down to the water...no big deal to me but I thought I'd mention it...

I thought the window washing machines or something were in front of 7564. It is noted on the RCCL website that it is an obstructed view cabin.

I really don't want to pay any extra since my dh and I are going for our 20th anniverary and leaving the teens at home and we really just want to be in the least expensive balcony so we can be on the ship and have fun.

On our "real" vacations, location and cabins are important to us but this is for a quick getaway for a present to ourselves. With Christmas only a couple of weeks prior to our boarding, I want to watch a little on how we spend for the cabin BUT, I would like to get the best cabin possible for the category I am paying for.

SO, with the window washing machine and RCCL saying obstructed, do you still think I should keep my cabin on Deck 7 or move to Deck 8, smaller balcony but sandwiched between cabins above/below me?

Thanks so much!!!!

Thank you but I thought this cabin also had obstruction? It says on the RCCL website that that specific cabin has an obstructed view but the Deck 8 does not say that although the balcony looks very small.

Still keep 7564 and see what opens after final payment? Thanks so much!!!

What is the date of your sailing? The cabin on deck 8 is really far forward so you will feel the motion more. Not a problem if that doesn't bother you. It appears that there are quite a few E3's left for the sailing on Jan 8...is that when you are going?

I am sailing on January 13, 2011. There aren't any E3s left with the exception of the one I have on a courtesy hold on Deck 8. The forward isn't bothering me, it is the small outline of the balcony that is bothering me. I would rather be forward and sandwiched between cabins than on Deck 7 obstructed with sports bar/casino under me but if Deck 8 had a normal balcony, I would move. When you look at the cabin plans, do you see how small the balcony is? Why is that and is it correct? I did a search but can't find any information on the cabin balcony. Thank you VERY MUCH!

I found a post that has a picture and description of the obstruction you're talking about...not sure I would like it but it doesn't look like something that will be a huge obstruction...

You don't have a lifeboat in the way but you do have the vertical walkways between you and 7566 that is parked when not cleaning the balcony glass.

The deck plans tend to be fairly accurate - if the balcony looks smaller, it probably is...I'll do a search and see if I can find out any more information about that cabin...maybe a picture....

OK, I wasn't able to find any pictures of 8508, but I did find a whole album from someone who stayed in 8008 which is the mirror image of 8508 but is on the Port side.

http://humu.ipac.caltech.edu/~jason/pics/Radiance1024/Page1.html

There are pics of the balcony and it looks like a regular size, but that it is partially enclosed by the superstructure of the ship.

Hope that helps!

Thank you. I've looked and looked but can't find anything for the cabin on Deck 8

I wonder if the window washer thing is in the middle of the balcony or at the dividers???

HHHHMMMM........

Thank you VERY much! I so greatly appreciate all the help from you and everyone!

OK, I promise I won't keep pestering you but it just dawned on me that 8508 is close to the cabin I had for my very first cruise. I had an interior cabin, although on Serenade, on deck 8 - 8003...I will say this...NEVER AGAIN will I stay in any of those interior cabins very forward. We were right over the Theater and could hear every rehearsal, every show, every sound out of the loudspeakers. On the bright side, I got to learn the lyrics to VIBEOLOGY after just a couple days...

LOL...I doubt the balcony cabins like 8508 can hear it but I thought I'd share my first cruise cabin horror story....I can't say it deterred me from cruising (I'm waiting to take cruises 14 and 15) but I am certainly more aware of public areas above or below the cabins I look at now.

Chef, I hope you are still online. Thank you VERY much for all the work you did to help me.

Deck 8 is sandwiched between decks of cabins. Are you saying you heard the theatre from Deck 6 on Serenade or was it on Deck 7. Deck 6 on Radiance has the casino, bars, etc.

Maybe I'll just keep what I have but I hate being over the sports bar/casino???? What do you think???!!!! THANKS.

We have 8508 on the 12/29 sailing. When we booked we were warned that the balcony was smaller than usual, but we ended up taking it anyway. Our kids are directly across the hall from us, so that was a main factor in the decision, and our only other choice was to have them way down the hall or on a different deck if we didn't want 8508.

I'm glad to have seen the picture of 8008 so at least I have some sort of idea what we're in for! Thanks for posting it:)

I am absolutely positive, I went and looked at my cruse documentation ans seapass card for my first cruise...Yes, I am a packrat...lol...I save everything related to my cruises... :)

You are correct, Deck 8 is sandwiched between two decks of cabins but if you look at the deck plans you'll be able to see what I'm about to describe...

The balcony level entrance to the Aurora Theater is on deck 6. The ceiling of the Theater is really high and actually goes all the way up so that the top of the theater ceiling is right below the 8th deck.

If you look at the deckplans for deck 7 forward, there is "white space" where the Theater continues up until it gets to deck 8 where my little cabin was.

So the floor of my cabin on deck 8 was right above the Theater ceiling. I can sing you a few bars from VIBOLOGY if you want, I can still hear it as clear as day in my mind. hehehehe.

I found a picture of the Aurora Theater so you can see just how high the ceilings are in there....check out this link... Aurora Theatre, Radiance of the Seas

Did you try being put back in the guarantee pool or did they not allow that?

Susan, my TA had me on hold yesterday and called RCCL and although they could put me back in the GTY pool, I would have lost some OBC from the TA and it wasn't that important for me to move and loose it. I was informed, however, if the E3s become available, I can make a lateral move even after final payment. I called RCCL today to see if my RCCL Visa OBC was received and applied and confirmed above with them when I called.

THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY much!!!!

You have helped me tremendously!!!! I am a light sleeper and this would annoy the heck out of me. Even if not sleeping and hearing practices or whatever, this would bother me VERY much!! I wish I could give you a big hug and tell you thank you!!! Taking the time to look at your card, deck plans and answering me is very much appreciated!

I will NOT take that cabin for the VERY reason you state about the Theater. Thank you again.

You're very welcome, I'm glad I can help. No hugs necessary, we all do what we can to help each other around here. :)

The top balcony in the first shot below is the balcony of cabin 8008 on the port side which is the mirror image of 8508 on the starboard side. The balcony isn't smaller but it's view is blocked by the ship's superstructure.

Also deck 8 isn't directly above the theater, deck 7 is. Note the four inside cabins on deck 7 forward of the front elevators. The rest of the forward area on deck 7 is service area. Also last time on Radiance we had balcony cabin 7020 and we heard nothing from the theater below us. Before that had balcony cabin 7524 and it was the same. IMO a balcony one deck higher in that area would be even be less likely to have theater noise.

Second shot is theater on Radiance and you can see that it's ceiling doesn't go higher than deck 6 as the entrance on that deck is at the top left of the shot. It may be the service area (white area) on deck 7 that contributed the theater noise with chep christoph inside cabin on deck 8.

Tee hee! Those are my friends' pictures! I'm in a few of them towards the end of the album.

Bob, those are awesome pictures and they were exactly the kind of shots I was looking for earlier.

I hate feeling like I've misled someone with the information I gave and I totally trust what you have to say. All I know is that in 8003 it sounded like the performers were singing in my room. Whatever that void is on deck seven, it certainly does nothing to dampen the sounds from the Theater below, at least in 8003, so I always though that the auditorium space just continued up to right below the 8th deck.

Thanks for the clarification!

Rob:

Cabin 8508 went back into GTY this morning and I have it on hold again.

SO, can you please PLEASE tell me, did you hear noise?

Also, Chef, I looked at the Deck plans this morning and Deck 7 has cabins right below 8508.

I would rather be in my Deck 7 cabin but it has the obstruction. IF Deck 8, 8508, did not hear noise (Rob???), they I would take that but do you think that the noise went from Deck 7 cabins up to Deck 8 cabins?

OR, would you both (or anyone else that wants to chime in) keep what you had on deck 7 with the window washer obstruction and wait and see if more E3s opened up on Sunday, which is final payment? I'll be doing college visits all weekend with my dd so won't be home to see if anything opens up until late Saturday and late Sunday nights.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
