sludger Posted May 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2011 I don't know about you but I am really enjoying this new forum. It started out a bit slow but the last few weeks have been great. We've had heaps of names on here that we did not see on the P&O site, many new ones but most are sleepers much the same as I was, unwilling or afraid to mention anything non P&O related or heaven forbid, to criticise P&O on this Cruise Critic website. We've had some wonderful topics, mathematics, nasty people and oh yes we're even getting the old P&O gang from the other forum turning up on here. I've heard that the old gang have been called some nasty things in the past, even been accused of being in the employ of P&O. That's a bit below the belt because even if they were P&O staff or travel agents with vested interests, what possible purpose would be served by getting on these forums and defending P&O to the hilt flooding every thread that is negative to P&O with irrelevant off topic posts until people cannot be bothered to find the original topic. The last few weeks have have been invigorating for me and all I can say is vive la revolution, maybe we can get more new posters on here and we might even be able to lower the average age to below 70, we need some fresh ideas. All the best and keep me posted! Off to bed now I have to go to work tomorrow. Paul

Every day when I log onto CC, THIS is the first place I come because I have learned so much from all of YOU! Can't help much with the age business because I'm 62, but there are a pair of ladies who are 25 who have booked "Spirit to Oz," and they're looking for ideas so I'll send them this way! Rare erewhon Posted May 11, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Well, I think it's great that there is a separate Australia/NZ section of cruise critic. I may not post here very often, but frequently check the topics. Thank you to everyone who gives such good advice.

sludger Posted May 14, 2011 Author #12 Share Posted May 14, 2011 My favourite thing about this new forum is the amount of new posters on here and the informative answers about ALL the cruise lines here in Australia. In fact there have been comments about cruises in Asia that would never have made it past first base on the P&O forum. The best example I can think of is the one about Star Cruises. Someone asked what they were like and immediately someone replied quite quickly saying that they only run "gambling cruises". Normally on the old forum that would have been the end of it but after a few posts it was established that Star cruise line was in fact giving cruisers a far better product than most of the cruise lines that leave from Australia. As for gambling I couldn't actually see the "gambling" attraction for the cruisers anymore than any other line now. Most of their cruises leave from Singapore where there are now two enormous casinos. It could soon be the Las Vegas of Asia. I could go on but I would like to hear more comments from other members. Would you like to go back to the old forum or carry on? Paul
rugbypopsie Posted May 14, 2011 #13 Share Posted May 14, 2011 I think the split was a good idea and I am happy with the growing band on the new forum...P & O faithful deserve their own and the rest of us are happy to live here and have visitors from P & O or anywhere. I love Princess but the Princess site was just not about things I am interested in..much happier here.:)

ceejay3377 Posted May 15, 2011 #16 Share Posted May 15, 2011 HI all, I would have to agree that this forum is a great addition to CC. I mostly lurk, but love to see what others think about the various cruise lines that currently cruise here and those that are heading this way. I have cruised P&O twice, and I can't say that I am a fan - HAL has won me over with a bit more class :). So I would sometimes look in on the P&O boards for info on ports, but not much more. Since this forum was opened, I feel that I have a bit more in common with you all :D. Interestingly, because this forum seems more friendly and constructive, I am actually considering trying P&O again. I am willing to risk the investment on a shorter cruise to see if they have improved since my Pacific Sun cruise e few years ago. Or maybe I might even try Carnival:p. Who knows ... ? Anyway, I love to hear about your experiences - good or bad. Keep up the positive spirit everyone! Carina

Our favorite cruise line to date is Holland America, but we've gotten such "bargains" on Carnival that we can't resist!! You most probably will not encounter "class" on Carnival to the extent you do on Holland America, but perhaps someone who sees this post may disagree with me. HAPPY CRUISING! Well my comment was meant to be read with a drop of irony, lol, although I really am keeping an eye on prices and itinerary for some of the shorter cruises offered by other cruise lines. I would like to try some shorter cruises on some of the new players, just to see what they are like. My main barrier is that I am a teacher so I am limited to school holidays, and they don't usually have the shorter trips during these peak times. But a quick, cheap cruise is better than no holiday at all IMO.:) Cheers, Carina
Kiwi Kruzer Posted May 15, 2011 #19 Share Posted May 15, 2011 Hi Carina, Check out some of the Princess cruises. The cruises you have done on on P&O Australia will be added to your cruise history in The Captains Circle, and then you start getting past passenger benefits. The Diamond Princess usually comes out with some good specials when she is down here..... but you do need to put them on watch and then move when the price drops.:)
pattle66 Posted May 16, 2011 #20 Share Posted May 16, 2011 I have been lurking around cruise critic for a while but have never looked in here! I definately will now. We have sailed five times times on RCI and once on NCL. The last cruise was from Sydney to New Zealand on Rhapsody and we are due to cruise the Baltic in June. We have decided to look closer to home for our future cruises to reduce costs. I'd be interested on everyones opinion on which cruise line and itinery they prefer. Oh and I lower the average age as I am 35 (hubby is 44)!! :D

sludger Posted May 21, 2011 Author #22 Share Posted May 21, 2011 I think weekends are the most enjoyable, people from all over, most of them new posters get involved. We're even getting a few of our old mates from the P&O forum coming over. Mind you I don't think much is going on on that forum. Yes for me a great success! If we all have a vote now while that other nasty gang are not on here we might be able to push it through before they get back on. Thank you to everyone who gives such good advice. Well, I am a bit gutted as this was going to be my first ever multi quote post, but the little " link button is not opening anything for me.:( Never mind. I think this forum is well overdue. When I first lobbed into cruise critic, I was booked onto a princess cruise so tried that board but it didn't have a lot of aussie ship info, and when I found P&O Aust, I wasn't sure what sort of posts I could make. The name was deceptive. Much better to have an aussie forum, clearly marked as such, where people can ask about any cruise, I am guessing that is why there are some people from overseas posting here now-because it is clearer what the board is about. Do we really need TWO though? This one and G'day mate? I would have thought one site-aussie and NZ cruisers, would have been enough. I love some of the humour in the posts-offbeat and quirky. most entertaining.:p
