If you don't mind the possibility that nude people may be seated next to you (they sit on their towels), Pedro's is very friendly and the food is reasonable and tasty and they sometimes have entertainment.

Great to have the two lists one one page ... as well as the additions "Favorites" added by a couple of nice folks.

We also like Pedro's, Baywatch (Cheryl & Andy's :p ), and Pirates! Always do this part of Orient now (all children out of college :D)

(We don't care what they don't wear as long as they don't care what we do wear!)

That's why we need HELP! Here's our DILEMMA: Our friends will be in port with on another cruise ship along with their older parents. They want me to pick a place to meet at Orient Beach. Thinking, because of the parents, we should meet down the beach a bit ... but, not Orient Village.

I would tell them to meet you in front of Kakao Beach Bar. It's centrally located and easy for taxi driver drop off. In addition, it has a restaurant, bar, restrooms and shower facilities. There will likely be topless women but little or no nudity. As a plus, it's within an easy walk to The Pirate or Bay Watch for eats. You can even pick a spot in the back row of chairs so the parents will have a politically acceptable distance from "strollers" along the water edge.

... somehow was "cut off" in the middle of my above post ....

Thanks cal for understanding what I was going to ask and responding!

... was going to ask about Kontiki or Coco ... but, you think Kokao Bar would be best ... right?

cal, you are always wonderful with question on St.Maarten/St.Martin and ... also Key West. You opinions are very much appreciated!

Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)

I would normally include KonTiki, but their prices are high and the service is less than desireable. Not only that, depending on the location of the water line, they could get a little squeezed for beach space.

For me, I minimize the cost of chairs and umbrellas and maximize quality of service and proximity to good eats. I like The Pirate as the owner (Glenn) is really a nice guy and the beach attendants (David & Celina) are super.

kal ... Thanks again for your help! (Also, for understading my earlier post with all of the typos, etc. I was having a problem being cut off either by my computer or this board ... or maybe ... I just can't type! :D )

Kakao Bar should be a good meeting place for us; and, for sure will avoid KonTiki. When they leave, we can go where we wish.

Not sure if anyone can help me (I may be beyond help!!) but a few years ago we went to Orient Beach, got dropped off by the taxi and had a great lunch on the beach under a thatched roof (one "roof" for each picnic table). We had lobster, and great drinks. It was a blast, but I cannot seem to remember the name of the place. Loved it (granted we haven't been to any other place there, but between the atmosphere and food and drinks, it was a blast.)

Any idea where that was? I looked through L_T's list and nothing popped out. Does it sound familiar to anyone?

I second that. We were at Orient Beach in May and we ate lunch and had some excellent Pina Coladas at The Pirate. The food is really good too. Glenn is such a nice man! Here's a picture:

I would suggest you walk the beach, especially mid-beach & the south end, where there is more activity. Stop in a few of the shops, enjoy a drink (or two) at the beach bars and just explore what there is to see at one of the Caribbean most famous beaches. Have a fantastic time!

I remember seeing a place called New Jersey, right near Pedros. The owner formerly had a full sized restaurant, also called New Jersey, located on the main road near the Mont Vernon turn-off. When that place closed, he relocated to the beach. He always had lots of pilfered Garden State official road signs all over the inside and outside.

Is it still there? We will be back in SXM off the Disney Magic the week of 12/10-12/17.

Thanks

The Big Booper .... Feel sure that the place you want is Bay Watch! It's owned by Andy & Cheryl from NJ and has all of the NJ road signs ... very close to Pedros.

Hopefully, someone else will confirm ... BUT ... this has to be the place you want!

Have a wonderful cruise! Please remember to give us a report when you return!

Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)

We vote for The Pirate Beach Bar Grill!

We got dropped off at Pedro's Bar which was empty upon our arrival at 9:30 am but standing room only when we left the beach at 2:30 pm. After walking the beach we settled in at The Pirate Beach Bar Grill. We got two lounge chairs on the waterfront with a 3-inch-thick white chair pad, an umbrella, and two drinks for $14.00. Service by David was great. He'd check on us and reposition our umbrella to allow for more shade or sun as desired. Orient Beach is a beautiful white sand beach with blue and green waters which appeared clearer than Coki Beach on St. Thomas. This is a clothing-optional beach, and yes, folks exercising this option do walk the length of the beach or sunbathe along the beach. This beach had everything available for a price: jet ski, parasail, windsurfing, and more.

Well, shoot. I wish I'd paid attention to this earlier. Please, don't just assume that the parents (i.e., "old" people) will be offended or uncomfortable around toplessness/nudity. In fact, it's often as we get older that we realize that it's not a big deal. Who knows, they may be looking forward to the chance to just be "natural" (or at least see that others are comfortable enough to be).

And please, no posts about "old people/fat people/non-perfect bodied people" should cover up and not be allowed to enjoy the beaches in accordance with the local custom. No, only the young deserve to be topless/nude comments. No "but the beach wasn't filled with 'celebrity' bodies so it's really no fun" comments. It's not up to any of us to decide who should be "allowed" to enjoy the beach au naturale. The human body is beautiful in all it's ages and phases, IMO.

We will be there in April. Where exactly do we want to be dropped off by a taxi to go to Baywatch? Also, how will we get back to the ship? Are taxis waiting around for cruise passengers?

The cab should drop you off at Pedros. Walk onto the beach, facing the water, turn left. Baywatch is a couple hundred or so feet down the beach. Go back to Pedros and there will be cabs looking for fares back.
