"Non-convertible" twin beds?

Recommended Posts

I finally got around to going to the Personalizer for our upcoming Alaska cruise on the Diamond and was surprised to see our bed type listed as non-convertible twin.

Is this what it sounds like - twin beds that can't be pushed together to form a queen size?

I hope not - after all this is our anniversary cruise!

If so I guess we'll make do - "honey, your place or mine?". icon_biggrin.gif

Our personalizer also said that even though I had requested a queen bed. I called Princess and told them and they told me that it would be changed and the beds would be made into the queen configuration...it has since been changed on the personalizer. Sissy

For our 5/8 cruise on the Caribbean Princess, our also showed non-convertible. Our TA called Princess and was told that it is a computer glitch. It was corrected and it now shows Queen Bed. We had the same concern. I would ask your TA to call Princess.

  • 1 year later...

They will convert your cabin to a queen but WATCH OUT

On the Sun there are loads of cabins even disabled ones where if you have a queen you simply cant walk around the side of the bed you either have to clamber over corner of the bed or a cupboard

The 3 and 4 berth cabins have a pillar on either side which blocks you getting down sides of a queen

The design of the cabins is crazy .............they only work space wise if you have them as twins

The cabin attendants will tell you this too

I think its time Princess were totally honest about the situation

whoever designed the Sun Princess was an idiot who clearly never put a queen bed into the prototypes

I have to agree wholeheartedly with you. On my recent Island cruise, upon going to my cabin, I noticed that the beds were configured as twins. I found my cabin steward and in addition to requesting an ashtray, asked him to put them together as a queen. He agreed to do that, but warned me that the cabin would be tight for moving around. He showed me how there would be limited space between the wall and the bed, requiring me to scoot over to the one side of the bed in order to access the bathroom ... something that would be especially challenging in the middle of the night ... while half asleep.

This was the first cabin I ever had which accommodated a third and fourth person via beds that dropped down from the ceiling.

After thinking about it, I agreed with my cabin steward's assessment and figured that having that extra twin bed for storage would probably be a better idea.

Blue skies ...

Our stateroom also showed as non convertible twins on cruise personalizer, but I had asked for the queen configuration and that was how it was set up upon embarkation!

I booked a gty on SEA and when a cabin assignment was made it defaulted to non-convertible. Whilst freaking out, I called my TA who was able to fix it instantly. We had a queen set-up on SUN last year and it was OK.

Like I said it depends on the deck and the cabin

All cabins on Plaza deck will not take a queen configuration unless you want to climb over corners /furniture etc

The same situation occurs on other decks in certain cabins but not of course in balcony or suites

Short of checking every single cabin maybe on a changeover day on a B2B or asking clued up room stewards its hard to find out before you book

Ours was listed as non-converting twins for our Caribbean Princess cruise last year. We discussed it at home as to the advantages/disadvantages, etc. and decided to take what we got. We got the queen that we wanted, without having to call. We kept checking the personalizer. I can't remember if it was finally changed in there and wasn't sure we'd have it until we got there. We had an inside cabin and plenty of room on both sides. We also kept checking the stateroom pictures and read the boards and came to the conclusion that it was a glitch because Travelocity had it listed as a queen. Lynne

Now I'm confused. My documents state non-convertable twin beds. I have D317 for two weeks on Carribbean Princess. When I called Princess they told me because I have a third person in the room, they cannot change the computor to say I want a queen. But that when I arrive on board the beds "should be made into a queen" before I get there. Is this going to be a problem? I deliberatley got a mini suite for the room because I wanted a queen and a sofa couch for my daughter. Does anyone know if the mini suite have a problem with space?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron,

Not a problem in the Grand Class mini-suite at all. The computer default simply won't let the system show a Q setup when three people are in a cabin. In other rooms this is because the upper bunks are over the lowers. In your mini, the sofa is in its own little room, does not interfere with the beds in the main room at all, so those can be in either configuration. Don't worry, it will be fine. (some of the posts above refer to other ships and cabin types)

On all of our cruises we have been given twin beds for hubby and I and that has been ok with us. On our last cruise - we had a queen bed and it made for a jammed up room. To look out our window, one had to climb over the entire bed. The life jacket bin had been placed in the corner at the foot of the bed, so that blocked our path. So now we simply request twin, since it seems to make getting around our balcony cabins easier. Also, we seem to sleep better if the boat tosses a little and you are rolling into each other, or just restless with the excitement or sleeping in a new bed.

I'm on the Grand out of Galveston in November on a Dolphin Deck AA Minisuite. I called Princess because personalizer also said it was a "non converting twin". Princess told me they couldn't change it until embarkation. They said to request they convert to a queen when I check in, or when I arrive in the cabin and contact the room steward.

Had the same problem when we originally had booked an Inside Guarantee cabin. After we upgraded to a balcony cabin, the Personalizer still said non-convertable twins. The person at Princess explained that if you book an Inside Guarantee, you don't have an actual cabin # and some of the cabins only have the non-convertable twins, so therefore, just in case you get assigned to one of those cabins, that's the way it reads. That's the story she told me at least.

When booking my first cruise with my husband, as a "newbie" I couldn't read the deck diagrams to figure if the rooms could be converted to queen, so I decided to let a "pro" handle the booking to be sure it was correct. When the documents arrived it read "twin beds." So I called the TA to have her check on it as I wanted to be certain we were getting convertible beds. Well of course they weren't, and the ship was fully booked so nothing could be done to change it. I was not a very happy camper but was compensated with an onboard credit. It was just the first of many disasters and I was thankful for travel insurance. Our flight was delayed, causing us to miss the sailing of our ship. Our luggage was lost for 2 days and the ship broke down for a day. Suffice it to say that the cruise line is no longer in existence!!!
