Shuttles Offered for Overnight?

We are considering a HAL cruise out of Venice for the family in the summer of 2010. We would have an overnight in Venice after embarkation. Does anyone know if shuttles are provided by HAL (either free or pay) to get back into San Marco for dinner our first evening? Appreciate any advice from those that did various Venice cruises this year.

The ship will probably offer some sort of shuttle from San Marco to the ship. We did the opposite of what you are doing....we disembarked in Venice, and the day we arrived a shuttle was offered to & from San Marco. We did not use it because I wanted to walk around my beloved Venezia without worrying about getting back to a certain point. Go and enjoy, Venice is a lovely place and I hope you are going a day or two early to savor her charm.

Thanks so much, Sharon. We've been there before but our grown children and their families have not. We would only have time to come in one day before, so we thought they might enjoy another evening in Venice. Since you said that you didn't use the shuttle, did you use the vaporetto or a water taxi to get back to the ship?

We don't know whether HAL will offer a shuttle, but the vaporetto stop is about 15 minutes walk from where the ships usually dock. Not a hard walk, Steve did it with a sprained ankle.

MCMR:

We just got home from the OODam trip that started on Sept 3 with an overnight in Venice. We were quite disappointed in the HAL shuttle service (or lack thereof) for passengers wanting to eat dinner in Venice. All shuttles ended at a very early hour (like 6pm).

SO....we went to town anyway and had a great dinner near St. Mark's. Afterwards don't miss going to the square to listen to the orchestras of the different cafes play with St. Mark's & the whole square lit in background.

Around midnight we took the vaporetto (forgive the spelling) back to P. Roma and luckly found one (and only one) taxi at the P. Roma water bus station which is a 15 minute walk from the ship pier.

Taxi drove us right to the ship gangway. Taxi charged 10 euros for the short trip but anything beat a long lonely walk at almost 1am along the docks....even if it is only 15 minutes!
