Sunday on Murano

We were planning on visiting the island on a Sunday. Will sites and shops be closed?

The best time to see glass blowing is Monday - Friday between 10:00am and noon. The Museo del Vetro di Murano (Venetion glass) is open 10:00am - 6:00pm. The churches will be closed for touring Sunday morning until after mass. Glass showrooms, shops and retaurants will be open.

Thanks, Sherry. I was a little disappointed to realize we would be visiting Murano on a Sunday, but it is the day our ship is in Venice.

I feel better after reading your post. Thanks for sharing.

On Burano we just went into a couple of the little shops and bought some patterend lace and then walked around, down side streets taking photos..very pictueresque! Great gifts.

You will have enough to do in Murano..don't worry. Also, most of Venice around St. Mark's is open and just do NOT miss going to the Rialto Bridge which is wonderful any day of the week. Even just a vaporetto ride up and down the grand canal is a sight..Sunday is fine..we were worried like you but had been there before for 3 days and 2 days during the week and this past trip found Sunday just fine much to our surprise!

We didn't spend a lot of time on Burano -- just walked around, took pictures, and enjoyed looking at the colorful houses and the beautiful and peaceful scenery. If you are into lace, that's what the island is famous for -- beautiful lace curtains, handmade christening and first communion dresses, etc.

I'm reminded of the Cheshire Cat's response to Alice when she asked which way to go: "if you don't know where you are headed, any path will take you there."

If you make a google map of Murano and Burano, you'll see that they are each fairly small, especially Burano. As a previous poster said, you can just get off and wander around ... neither is big enough to get lost.
