Rare HeinBloed Posted October 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2009 Has anyone taken the high speed rail from Barcelona to Madrid? Is it easy to get to from the Barcelona port ? Can we take luggage? Recommended/not? Thanks! Steve It's about 10 minutes by taxi to Sants Railways Station (about 10 EUR - but vary due to time and day of travel and number of bags etc.). Check here: http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html We have not use it because it was cheaper to fly (about 30 EUR). The high-speed train was double as high. ab0si Posted October 2, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 2, 2009 Since the high sped line opened, I usually take the train but, be warned, the trip is not very scenic.
copperski Posted October 5, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2009 We took the high speed train from Madrid to Barcelona this past July. Yes,you can bring luggage with you. We had two big rolling duffle bags and two carry on bags. There was a baggage compartment on each car, so there was plenty of room. We thought the scenery leaving madrid for the first hour was interesting, but remember the train travels at about 180MPH, so the scenery goes by real fast. We took the train to expierence a high speed train and to avoid having to take another flight. definitely recommend it.
laurieb Posted November 2, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2009 thankyou for this information. We're considering flying in to MAD and taking the train to Barcelona, as the airfare seems to be cheaper that way.
Rare TLCOhio Posted November 3, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2009 thankyou for this information. We're considering flying in to MAD and taking the train to Barcelona, as the airfare seems to be cheaper that way. As a caution, don't forget that you will still need to get from the Madrid airport, which is fairly large in size, into this good-sized main city and then to its train station before you can go to Barcelona. Those added logistics add time and hassle. I would consider the air option, too, either direct to Barcelona or flying through a connecting flight at Madrid. THANKS! Enjoy! traveld Posted February 9, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Yes, I am interested in knowing what arrangements you made to get from madrid to Barcelona also. i was considering the train, but if flying is not very expensive, I would like to know what airlines and how you bought your tickets. Was it one way?

Was it one way? Don't know your dates but airlines are: http://spanair.com, http://vueling.com/, http://www.iberia.com You can buy online; in most cases cheaper that rail. traveld Posted February 9, 2010 #12 Share Posted February 9, 2010 Which one did you end up using? Any comments on the actual flight? Were there luggage restrictions? Any caveats we should be aware of? I did look at the Spanair site, it was in Spanish! How were you able to figure things out? Did you pay in $ or euros? I did look at the Spanair site, it was in Spanish! How were you able to figure things out? Did you pay in $ or euros? There is a language choice on all 3 sites. You'll pay in euros for Spanair and Vueling and in $ for Iberia. You may be able to buy in $ from expedia.com. I used Vueling but not for Madrid-Barcelona. They are all fine for 1 hr flight.
