It's possible, but not exactly easy, especially if you have a lot of luggage. The public transit is by train - you take the local train from the airport to the Roma Trastevere station, where you switch to another local train to Civitavecchia. From there it's about a five block walk to the port entrance.

 

You will encounter stairs at the Trastevere station and you may again at Civitavecchia. Sometimes there are working elevators at Trastevere, sometimes not. You can avoid this potential issue by taking the train from the airport to Roma Termini instead, and getting a train from there to Civitavecchia. It takes longer to do this, but does avoid the stairs at Trastevere.

I d take the ship bus, if possible.Worth it for long ride and luggage.It would be more convenient and not much more in cost .Then they re resposible for getting you there, with short amount of time,delays,etc.Check into it first;;;;;last resort take train as above.My exp.with Italian trains, ran late..;)
