Cruiseline food costs in relationship to on-shore restaurants

Every so often a thread pops up about how much a cruise line allocates per person/per day for food costs.

To help keep this in perspective, your local restaurants like to keep the food costs in the 25-30% range of the price on the menu for that particular dish. For example, at your local restaurant, if you order a dish that costs $18, the actual food cost should be around $5 if the restaurant is in their food cost sweet spot.

I am not sure what you are asking, or what your comparison is, since you did not give us an idea of how much the cruise lines allocate for food per-person per day. However, I know that eating on shore is usually much more expensive than eating in one of the Ships speciality restaurants. DH and I always try to eat lunch on the ship. After all, we have already paid for it, and eating in port is usually very expensive if you want a good meal.
