Bahamas Stop Noon to 6pm - what to do?

We will be in the Bahamas on the Jewel next week and are not sure what to do. We have never been there and our stop is only from 12 pm to 6 pm. Is there something near the port to do for 4 or 5 hours? We like the beach the most, but would be OK with a rum tour or shopping. Any ideas? Thanks!

My 2 GFs and I took a taxi to Cable Beach. The driver dropped us off at the Casino Entrance at the Wyndham. We walked right through to the beach and sat down on some chairs--no problems. Ended up walking over to the Radisson next door which was a lot nicer. Great beach day! When we were done we went through the lobby of the Radisson and then down to the street at caught the Jitney/Bus (#10). $1 pp and it took us into the straw market, just a few blocks to the pier. I would recommend the jitney over the taxi.

There is shopping close to the ship, so we have gotten off the ship for an hour or so then get back onboard to take advantage of the empty ship. You can "meet and greet" many of the staff around the pool. We find it is nice to get to know where they come from, how long they have been onboard, when they will be going home. This port has been the most relaxing for us. The biggest bonus is there aren't a bunch of "lounge hogs" around the pool!!!

I was in Nassau on Friday, for the second time in 4 months. On our first trip we took a ship's excursion around the island. We stopped at a couple of forts and went to Ardastra Gardens for an hour or so.

This past week, we did some shopping for 3 hours or so, then went to the Atlantis via taxi. We walked all around the resort (which is incredible!), then took the water taxi back to the pier.

If you just want to walk around, the shopping is all quite close to the ships - no taxi necessary. There's also a decent beach within walking distance. It's a hotel's beach (I don't recall which hotel) which is $10 per person to access. The pier is right next to Woodes Rogers Walk (street name.) If you walk down Woodes Rogers a short distance, you'll see the straw market on your left. The street dead-ends (in less than half a mile) into Senor Frogs. The hotel/beach is just on the other side of Senor Frogs.
