Opening balcony divider

Mr. Tricky

Recommended Posts

Mr. Tricky,

Your two balconies will open without blocking any door....they are listed as connecting. I haven't heard of problems on the Liberty opening balconies that are listed as connecting. You will not need a bungee or anything to hold it open. Just ask your steward.

A lot of people are wondering if their cabins open up because they do not know where to check to see if they do so..........so they are now worried. I have heard of the Conquest having trouble opening balconies...sounds like a captain issue but I don't know much about it.

Enjoy

Its starting to look like my plan B will become my plan A. Im getting the impression that it all depends what crew member you ask, how you ask, do they feel like doing it, will they give you a legit or bogus excuse not to do it. I have even read that greasing the palm of the person you ask gets better results. Its a crap shoot... All I want is to do is unlock a door. LOL

No.

Some commanders of vessels take the fear of fire at sea very seriously, knowing an open balcony partition will NOT inhibit its spread. As they are the master, their rules rule.

Mr. Tricky...I apologize for confusing you with kasfun. I don't see where you posted your room numbers.

Kurbanfan...........I am confused....I looked up those two room numbers here and thought if they are listed as connecting that they aren't blocking doorways. Can you help me out or tell me where you are looking to find that information. That would be useful to me too :)

Mr. Tricky... you shouldn't have any problems having them open the balcony divider on the Liberty. We had two connecting balcony rooms on the Liberty, they opened it for us not long after we asked. The Liberty is a beautiful ship... ENJOY!!

I have been on the Legend and the Miracle each time with aft balconies. I request every time with both parties present and have been refused for Security reasons. I have asked at the desk, the room steward and on all 6 sailings. Always saying due to security.

I am not sure why that says connecting balconies.......actually ALL balconies connect...........except some will block the cabin door....

A few of us on cc figured out this method a few years back.......

You need to go to the travel website that starts with an E and ends with an A;) Find a cruise with the Glory (or any Conquest class ship) find the deck plan and look up the posters cabin numbers........it will show indentations where the front cabin doors are.....the front cabin door will be in line with the back cabin door.......so if it shows the front doors on the cabins are side by side.......that means the back doors will be side by side.......therefore once you swing the divider open it will block one of the doors.............this is the method we have used the last couple of years when we pick our cabins.....

I hope that makes sense:)

I apologize for the mess I made!!! The last thing I want to do is give someone wrong information. Thanks for correcting me.

I understand now how to look. I'm trying to see if the Valor's two l-shaped cabins can open up the door without blocking anything....What do you think? The travel agent tells me they won't open......the other website I was using doesn't list them as connecting. Can you help?

I was going to get the aft wrap and the one l-shape since I couldn't figure it out for sure.

Thanks for all of your help

The afts are a little tricky........for some reason they don't show the front door location on the deck plan......and I have also heard that some of the dividers don't open back there for safety reasons........

Sorry I wish I could be of more help:o

Maybe someone on here had those cabins and can help......

I'll add my two cents to the confusion. First, none of my cabins have been afts, wraps, L-shaped or any other odd configuration. Just plain standard balcony cabins. Door refers to the door between the cabin and the balcony. Divider refers to the balcony divider we want to open.

Spirit Class ships - the divider opens to the balcony railing. This will block your view from one of the cabin doors or the window, depending on the cabin configuration. The divider is secured with a clamp on the railing. I have been told that there is a "limited number" of clamps, and therefore a limited number of dividers that can be opened. A special tool is reqired to open both the divider and the clamp.

Conquest Class - the divider opens to the cabin side of the balcony. The cabins have either doors together or doors apart. If you have 3 cabins in a row, you will have one of each configuration. The divider is secured via a short metal strap that fits over a peg. The peg is either above a door, or above a window. If it is above one of the cabin doors (doors together configuration) the divider will block that door. It can be unlatched from inside the cabin, unless you are short or have thick arms. If it is above a window (doors apart) it will block about half of the window. The special tool is required to lock and unlock the divider from it's normal closed position, but not from the "held open" position.

Fantasy class - very limited number of balcony cabins, & I've never had one. Sorry, no information.

I have always called the purser's desk to ask that a divider be opened. Sometimes they have said that the other cabin must also call, sometimes not. (All cabins have been booked together). Sometimes maintenance comes up to open the divider, sometimes the cabin steward does it. I always call as soon as I get into the cabin, and the latest any divider has been opened is the first morning. Normally the dividers are opened while we are at dinner the first evening.

Sometimes we are notified of maintenance work while in a port (washing balconies, painting, etc.). The dividers are normally left in the requested position, but have been closed by maintenance on some cruises. The one time we asked that they be reopened, they were.

I have read on this board that there is a limited number of dividers allowed open for a various number of reasons; security, fire protection, structural strength, etc. I don't know if any of these are valid (they do sound logical), but have never had a problem getting the dividers opened as we desired.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know, whether cabins 6442/6450 on the Glory are able to connect our balconies?

Many thanks

The confusion is that the Spirit class is different from the other classes. On the Spirit class, you must ask at the pursers desk, BOTH parties must be present when asking, only a certain amount of them are opened, and they can only be opened by maintenance.

On all other ships, the partition can be opened by your steward. Just ask!

This is based on our experience on the Carnival Pride.

1. The divider opens away from the ship toward the balcony itself. It will block the view slightly of the forward most room of each pair.

2. It will not block either of the room doors to the balcony.

3. You SHOULD NOT do this yourself. There is no way that you could bring anything with you that would secure the divider to the balcony in a way that would be safe in rolling seas and high winds. The "clamps" that they use appear to be engineered specifically to connect the open door very securely to the balcony railing. After seeing the way the doors open and attach, I would not have trusted mine or my kid's fingers, toes or other parts to anything that I might have dreamed up.

4. We were told that they would not open the doors in high winds or really bad weather. We sailed in January out of Baltimore so I was not expecting to have it opened for a couple days. 10 AM the next morning, the guy shows up with his tools and the clamp.

Hi - according to www.cruisedeckplans.com these two balconies do not connect. However, 6450 connects to 6452. Are you sure you want 6442 and not 6450? Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks a million. How on that site, did you find that 6442 and 6450 connect?

Great site, thanks, putting it in my favorites.....

Cheers

Help would be so appreciated....... We are travelling with another couple and would like to be on deck 6 port side. We would like a balcony by the back, with balconies that we could move the partition. I have tried to navigate the deck plans.......... But I can't figure it out. Any help would be great. Also I have heard that on this ship the Glory, there is no connecting balcony rooms. Is this correct? Sorry for all the questions, as I've only had the pleasure of cruising once, now I am addicted, hook line and sinker.

Thanks for all your help

Helen

Was wondering the same thing. I went to the site and pulled up deck plan but didn't see anything about the balconies. I am on Victory and have 6 rooms. They are 8258-68 and wondering if the all connect.

6450 and 6452 connect. Not 6442 and 6450. That's why I asked if you had the wrong cabin #'s.

If you go to www.cruisedeckplans.com, click on Carnival, click on what ship ie., dream, click on "extras", click on the deck name i.e., veranda, etc. then all of the cabin numbers will appear in numerical order - that's where all the info is., what type of beds, t.v., sofa, etc. and to the right of the info it will say what balcony cabin it connects to. Hope you all find the info you seek. I think I told you the directions correctly. If you have a problem, e-mail me and I'll try to be more specific. chrisp414@yahoo.com.

Did you click on "extras" there will be cabin details by deck, and then Verandah - all of the cabin #s come up - if you give me your exact cabin #'s I can look them up for you but I think if you follow the instructions it will come up for you. Let me know. chrisp414@yahoo.com

Do you remember what rooms you had? Where they ok for noise levels? Also were you able to have the divider moved for the balconies?

thanks

I don't remember the actual cabin numbers - sorry - but they were about mid-ship and like I said, the divider opened so we could make 1 large balcony instead of 2 separate ones. I do remember hearing ding, ding, ding sometimes at night - I finally figured out it was coming from the casino - it didn't really bother me though. Sort of faded out sound.
