msweezie99 Posted January 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Hi, I've probably read about these items in the past, but as the time nears (Feb 19th) for the Enchantment, for my FIRST cruise ever!!! I am now starting to make some lists.... some questions for all you seasoned cruisers!! We have just a large interior cabin (hubby and 2 children) Are there hairdryers? Alarm clocks? Do they suppy little shampoos and conditioners? Are there enough, or can u get enough for 5 nites? I do remember hearing that irons are a no-no, do they check your luggage for these? Are they a no-no? Are children allowed in the bars or casino at all? Are they allowed at the after dinner shows? That's all i can think of for right now, thanks for your help!! dougp26364 Posted January 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2005 They have hair dryers, no alarm clock but I just ask for a wake up call, they have a soap/shampoo dispenser in the shower that holds enough for several cruises. Irons are a fire hazard and fires on ships are very serious situations. Use the ships pressing service if you need too or take some Downey wrinkle free spray. You can also run hot water in the shower and hang your clothes in the bathroom to steam out the wrinkles but I find that to be to much trouble myself. trbutler Posted January 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Hairdryers - yes they are in your room Alarm Clocks - No - I suggest a battery operated one, there is limited outlets Shampoo & Conditioner - Yes - but it isn't the best. I bring my own and let my husband (who has hair that is 1/4" long) use the stuff on the ship Irons - no they don't check your luggage, but for the price to send them out to be ironed - let them do it. It is VERY reasonable. Kids are not allowed in the casino at all. As far as show, I think it depends on the show. But I will tell you depending on the age of your kids, some of the shows have adult humor and I wouldn't want my young child there. But there is in room baby sitting available, if they are within those ages.
maxs mom Posted January 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2005 I always unplug my clock radio from my bedside table at home and take it with me. It doesn't take up that much room. It has big illuminated digital numbers and believe me.....in an inside cabin, you will need that. I always want to know what time it is. Also take a power strip with you because there are limited outlets.

jezzdogg Posted January 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Have been looking for the Downey wrinkle release spray......have not found it in my supermarkets here in NY/ Any other stores that might carry it. We pack a small travel iron in our luggage for last minute touch-ups, very light weight.
ALIASapoFan Posted January 13, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2005 jezzdogg, try Target or Wal-mart. I think that is where I got my wrinkle stuff. I am on the fence about a travel iron - should I get one or no?
maxs mom Posted January 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2005 I always take a travel iron and I have used it on every cruise.

Rayefan Posted January 14, 2005 #10 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Nope, they are still making it and recently brought to the shelves a new scent. Light Freshness and the new Vibrant Freshness. I hope you can find it. Barb
sailinglisa Posted January 14, 2005 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Hair dryer - yes. Alarm clock - no. I bring a battery operated alarm clock with me only because the electrical current on a ship is not a steady stream like it is on land (it vacillates and can cause your clock to lose a good amount of time.) Wake up calls are a good idea. Shampoo/conditioner are in a dispenser in the shower (it is an all in one product) - I prefer to bring travel sizes of my own because my hair is weird. If you really need to iron, purchase a travel steamer! Irons are considered a fire hazard (and yes I know smoking and curling irons, etc. are just as bad but the cruise line does not say you can't bring those items on board, they do specifically mention irons.) Fire at sea is the worst possible thing that can happen. Children are allowed in bars, but I would try and limit that to pre dinner times - can get a little loud and sometimes inappropriate for little ones after dinner and into the late evening. NO children are allowed in the casino. Period. Must be 18 to enter. You can pass through but if your kids are with you, you cannot sit down and play a slot or table game. After dinner shows are good - the later night ones are usually the adult themed ones and I wouldn't bring a little one to those shows. Also, check out the seating policy, some ships have a "no children in the first 3 rows" policy. Power strip is definitely a very good idea!!!! Limited number of outlets in the room. jodymc Posted January 14, 2005 #12 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Check out the posting "Think you're a cruise critic, put your tips here". There are a lot of good ideas on there. As for irons....I use Downy Wrinke Release which is sometimes hard to find but usually Target has it. I like the alarm clock idea...it is nice to know what time it is. I bring those travel cosmetic bags that hang on the back of the door or a hook. They lay flat against the door and take up no room and I fill it with all bathroom needs. This works good because the bathrooms are very small. Msweezie-see you in 5 weeks as we are on the same ship.
