Rare CTCruisers Posted January 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2010 When we go to Naples on our NCL cruise, we are interested in 3 things. We want to see the National Archeology Museum, the Duomo of San Gennaro, and (if there is enough time) visit Herculaneum. Is this realistic? Will we have enough time to leisurely see the three sites? Any recommendations on how to get around to see these sites?
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Assuming you have the usual 12-hour day in Naples, you can do these things. If it were me, I'd head to Herculaneum as early as possible (take the bus or walk to the Circumvesuviana train station, take the train to Ercolano Scavi; there are dozens of posts on this board with great detail on how to do this if you search). Take the train back to the main Naples station (Centrale) where you can either take bus #110 or take the metro to the Museum. Assuming you have time, it looks like you could walk from the Museum to the Duomo (or take a taxi; there's a stand near the Museum), then walk back to the ship. The map linked here shows all the sites you mention, for reference: http://naples.rome-in-italy.com/InFiles/mappa_napoli.jpg
CintiPam Posted January 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2010 Agree with Cynthia (as usual). These three destinations will be easy to cover in one port day. Also agree that you should start with Herculaneum via the Circumvesuviana train.
