Jewell Northern Transatlantic Balcony question

Recommended Posts

I asked this question on the roll call for last years Northern Route WB Jewell Transatlantic and got no responses so I thought I would try here in the general questions area. This TA will be posted for Fall 2011 soon and since it is one of the more expensive ones I was trying to figure out if getting a balcony is really worth the extra money. For those that have done this northern crossing in a balcony, was it worth it? Was it too cold to sit outside, did you feel it was worth the extra money over an inside room? My DW and I usually travel in Balconies on our Caribbean cruises but was not sure about these northern TA's.

If you can offer an opinion based on your travels on this itinerary, I would appreciate it.

I have heard that the weather can vary quite a bit from year to year, but when we did the westbound last year we were fortunate enough to have enough nice days to sit outside.

If you are used to balconies, I would suggest sticking to it. The TAs are long cruises, and it is nice to have a little bit of "private" fresh air from time to time.

We used it about 3/4 of the time, we had a couple of very windy days but we were on the port side and the wind was coming down from the north and it was extremely pleasant on the balcony as we were protected by the ship. In port we love it also.

Have been in balcony cabins in 4 or 5 WB Jewel TA's and have used the balcony about 1/2 the time to sit on. Love it even on cool days, as you can open the door and get fresh air, even if it's too cool to sit for an extended period of time. Are usually on port side, don't know how starboard side has been, but would take another balcony for a WB TA. Never can tell about the weather, have had wind, rain, sun, everything but snow! Never have been able to use the outdoor pool, only the solarium pool, but some hardy souls have used the outdoor pool occasionally.........maybe they were from Alaska!

SueL and I spent a lot of time in the casino........never mind using the balcony! Hey, Sue, how you doing?

Thanks to all for their comments looks like we will get a balcony on the PORT side. LOL, I never even considered that the wind is more significant on the Starboard side. Thanks for the advice, thanks why this is a great board.

:)
