Don't swim

We are looking at going with some friends on an Eastern Carribean cruise in November. My wife and I do not swim and really don't want to sit out on the beach. Is there other things to do besides beach, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, etc and is it worth taking an Eastern carribean cruise if we don't do "water" stuff.

Thank you

If you check the message boards here for some of the more popular Eastern Caribbean destinations (St Thomas, San Juan, St Maarten, Grand Turk, Bahamas) you will find that there are lots of things to do besides sit on a beach and swim. Some very interesting historical sites in Old San Juan (fortresses, cathedral etc.), great food. Some great catamaran and other sails in St Thomas and island tours that don't include the beach. On St Maarten there isn't as much IMHO that doesn't include something to do with the beach but you can always go over to the French side and explore... more "european' than Phillipsburg.

I am not a beach person at all and have been on dozens of Caribbean cruises and had a great time!

There's tons more to these Caribbean islands

than the stereotypical Sea Sand Sun and Fun advertising blurb you hear and see! :D

Each of these islands has quite a little history

most of them changing hands between French, British and Spanish domination..

Tobago changed hands seventeen times..

Barbados on the other hand remained exclusively British from 1627

until granted independence in 1966.

Keep asking questions and poking around

-you'll find out there's much more than just watersports and beach life.

Here are a few photos that might illustrate..

3 giant windlasses at Nelson's Dockyard in Antigua!

Naval history combined with a south-of-the-island tour,perhaps?

Dominica is a definite non-beach island: think rainforest, instead!

Tours inland will show you the sights, but there are a few things in the back-in-time town..
