Necessary to book transport from Miami to FtL?

I have seen many recommendations on this board for pre-booked transport from Miami airport to hotels in Ft L. Is this necessary? Can you just get a taxi from outside the Arrivals at Miami airport? Is booked transport any cheaper? We are arriving on AA at approx 3.00pm on a Thursday afternoon. Would there be a problem getting an airport taxi ?

A taxi will cost you $85+ and there will be a line of happy cab drivers waiting for your business outside of baggage claims. www.SuperShuttle.com provides shuttle service from MIA to the Fort Lauderdale area and may save you a few dollars at the cost of time waiting for other passengers and other stops. Good luck!:)

Just in comparison, we rented a car from budget for $27 including fees and taxes, we will be picking up at Miami airport and taking to Budget location off-airport. They provide a shuttle to pier, or I am assuming hotel if need be. Might be a bit more of a hassle, but cost wise much better.

We used Alianza Transportation for our group and they did a very good job. Airport to FLL hotel and FLL hotel to Miami Pier. There number is 954 347-5005 and they have a web site you can go to for more info.

We just booked with Quality Limo Service, which I heard about here on the boards. It will cost $60 for the two of us one way, from MIA to the Hyatt Pier 66 in FL. Plus tip...thought that was reasonable. Just add dot com to their name if you are interested in looking at the website.

Yup...we had to take a taxi from MIA to FLL last week (short version of the story is our flight at MIA was cancelled, and we had to RACE to FLL to catch an alternate flight). It cost us $80, including tip. Would likely be a bit more to a hotel in town...
