Does anyone know if there is a possibility of HAL offering Caribbean cruises in the summer? We want to take our grandaughter on a cruise but she wilkl be in high school so taking her out of school isn't an option. DH would prefer not to go to Alaska. We are looking at 2011 .

According to HAL's 2010-2011 Cruise Planner brochure,

the Veendam will be doing 7 day cruises to Bermuda beginning in May - September 2011.

I realize Bermuda is not the Caribbean, but it's as close as HAL ships are going to get in the summer.

All other HAL ships will be in Alaska, the Med, Canada/New England or Europe.

Hope this helps.

A few years ago HAL lost thousands and thousands of dollars during 2 summers because of hurricanes -- people missing the ships -- ships nor arriving back in port on time -- people missing air flights -- amd the list goes. So that is when HAL pulled out of the Caribbean with no plans on returning there.

I didn't know that, KK. Interesting.

Like Gma I didn't know that - but what about winter? Last winter we were "Stuck" for three days (that almost became 6 days!!!) AFTER our cruise in Ft Lauderdale as we couldn't get home - and a lot of people missed their cruises because they couldn't get to Florida, so the lines still lost of lot of revenue...

However, I have also noticed that while this year Celebrity is sailing the Caribbean all summer (and the fares are not "Real low" which indicates they are filling the ships pretty well) next summer they will not be in the Caribbean, moving all of their large "Solstice" class ships to Europe. "Very interesting" as they say, as Holland also has more ships in Europe in the 2011 summer. 2011 may be the year for that long-desired Europe cruise - if only that Volcano would stop messing up flights!

Back to the OP, any chance of a "Spring break" trip? Otherwise you may have to look at other lines for a summer Caribbean trip!:(
