Ok all of you Texas Hold'em players

Do they use live dealers or computers. What is the rake? If they do not use live dealers how do they take the rake?

No Live dealers, it is all computerized. You use your sail and sign card. I can't remember the rake but, it was pretty high. I want to say it was like 3 %. There was always a wait on the tables though... usually had 1 or 2 tourney on sea days.

I just played and I thought it was closer to 10%. I can't remember.

 

What I didn't like about that was the obvious rake, but also there are live dealers for Blackjack and several other card games, some not so traditional.

 

There are 3 computerized hold'em tables on the Dream. With a game so popular, I don't see why it doesn't deserve a dealer. Except for the fact that they gain more $$$ from the computer.

 

Whatever. I will say this, when we were on the Dream, the same folks played every night. That was fun, because by the end of the cruise, you had made some pals and you see some friendly faces. And by then, you definitely know who the fishes are and who the sharks are. After all the fishes would get taken and leave, it was time to take the winnings and go to sleep. :D

Looking to sit down on the Conquest in Sept. Only one table (computer) last time we cruised and I cursed myself for not sitting down after watching them for a few hours.

Rake is 10%, maximum $15. Any pot over $150 has no more rake , other than the $15.

We had lots of lookers too. Was a little odd. Even if there were empty seats, there'd be men standing around for a long time. It's just a game. And at a big table, the blinds don't eat you too bad. Play tight till the cards are right.

 

We definitely had some newbies at the table who didn't know what they were doing. Anybody could sit and play. I know several were thinking about it. I loved being the only woman. Several tried to bluff me off the table right off the bat. Gave me a nice pile to play with.

Played for a short while on Fascination in April. The rake was 10% with a high cap (unlike $4 at a brick-and-mortar casino), so a $100 pot became $90, and if you chopped, you lost money. Also, to me it's like playing at a poker site on your computer. I question the true randomness of the cards. And another thing...I did miss the chips...I guess I just like the feel of them and shuffling them from time to time. I wouldn't do it again unless it was a tournament, and then it would be a maybe.

On the Glory 2 years ago the rake was 12.5% max $18 even with the game posted as 10% $12. I called the casino mang. over and she said she can't change it was controled from a remote site. She gave me a free drink and said she would take care of it, never changed the whole cruise never changed the sign.

Oh yeah, I have taken many a bad beat online. Gotten "donked" with great cards with players that play any two cards.

You could bring a stack of chips with you!

 

I much prefer a live dealer with actual chips as well. I adjusted faster than I thought I would. Still nervous that I would accidentally hit "All In" - "Confirm". You do have to be careful as I'm sure it's happened more than once.

I suspect the same thing. We were getting some wild hands; quads against full house, flushes on the river often, multiple straights, etc. Got people going all in pretty often. Of course, that's more $$ for the house. But it's rare to see that action in real life, and it was a common occurrence on the computer table.

More or less you are just playing on line poker, but with the people sitting in front of you.

White Dane, you are certainly on to something. If they have a built in rake, and they want to get as much money as possible, I wouldn't put it past them to program the machine to give lots of premium hands so the pots will be built up.

These computers must be something new...my last cruise on the Fantasy in 2006 I think they actually had two poker tables setup with dealers near the cigar bar...I was looking forward to that this time but, it sounds like I'm going to spend more time hunched over the craps table.
