NY Penn Station vs. Newark Penn Station

We are going on Celebrity Summit on Sunday Oct, 24, 2010 repo cruise to San Juan. Looking in taking Amtrak from Providence then car service to Cape Liberty. Should we get off at NY Penn or Newark Penn Station. NY Penn arrives one hafl hour earlier. What would cost of car service be from NY versus Newark? and savings of time from NY vs. NJ.

Newark Penn Station - NWK is the Amtrak station code.

Not really a choice - get off at Newark Penn Station and take a cab for $45-50 to the port. A car service will be much more expensive from NY to Bayonne and, by the time you get off the train and meet up with the service, may be a similar amount of time. Just be sure to take an early train from Providence so you have some "wiggle room" in case of delays.

Thanks for reply. The train leaves Providence at 7:20 and arrives at Newark Penn Station at 11:22 AM. Are cabs readily available at Newark Penn Station or should we order a car service? How long is the ride from train station to Cape Liberty?

There should be cabs at the station. It's a major station. It's about 20-25 minutes to the entrance of the port. However, there could be a traffic backup getting to the terminal.

 

Be sure you go to Newark Penn Station and NOT Newark Airport.

In Dec we arrived at 1230 from Washington and we had booked a car with http://www.blackexecutivecars.com/index.html for the transfer. I think it was $45 (cheaper than a cab). Took about 25 mins to Cape Liberty on a Friday lunchtime.
