First time on Carnival, question about smoking in public areas on Miracle

We are planning a family vacation on the Miracle and have been hearing so many different stories about the smoking in the public areas. I know there are designated smoking bars/lounges. What about the disco and casino? I am not a smoker so I am worried about there being too many smoking bars/lounges on the ship?

I have only been on Royal Caribbean and hardly noticed the smokers and when I was in a smoking area it wasn't bad at all (and I hate to be in smoky bars).

Thank you.

While I think it's a bit rude to say that other lines will suit you better just b/c you are not fond of smoking....Carnival is pretty accomodating to smokers. Anyone can and should be able to cruise and enjoy Carnival's ships....smoker or non-smoker.

I'm not a smoker...in fact I have very severe asthma and an allergy to smoke. The only time it bothers me is when I'm walking on the promenade deck next to the casino. Every time I walked by the casino, I would have a minor attack. But if you're not that sensitive, it shouldn't be too bad for you. You probably won't want to visit the piano bar, as it's a designated smoking bar and gets very smokey. But you won't notice any smoke on the rest of the ship.

The fact that Carnival is so favorable to smokers is the reason I choose to sail with them.

In my opinion I think any open air venue should be a smoking area. If a person can smell smoke with wind whipping by at 60 miles an area, there would be a chance to earn extra money as lots of police departments look for that quality to sniff out drugs that are being carried by the drug runners.

I have actually witnessed an obvious non-smoker in a mall that saw a gentleman that was selling the fake cigarettes that are used to help ween one from smoking. It looks like a cigarette, and even puts off a vapor steam that looks like smoke. As soon as she saw it, she begin to cough and choke and begin yelling that there is no smoking in the mall. Obviously this is a mental thing for her, but I have witnessed far more of this behavior than actual people that have an actual medical problem that arises from smoking.

I always obey the smoking areas, but think one should not be criticized when smoking in an area that is designated for that.

And this is just my opinion and not at all trying to be considered rude.

To the OP: I am not a smoker and am actually allergic to smoke. (And yes I can prove it - not in my head) and I have never had a problem with sailing on Carnival. Sometime the casino is a little smoky but generally still ok. I just get up and move it I have too. I do not visit the cigar bar, and as one posted said outside the air is usually clear. I have never had a problem in a room, my daughter did notice a slight odor in her inside room, but just let your cabin steward know and they will do what they can!

I think that we all have to be considerate of others. And that Carnival should be open to ALL!

I didn't mean to cause any drama...lol

I hope I didn't offend any smokers. My inlaws are coming with us, they have never been on a cruise and they were asking me. Like I said earlier, I have never been on Carnival so I didn't know how to answer them.

Thank you for most of the responses...LOL

No worries, Teecee. Smoking questions set off a firestorm on this board, no matter who asks or how nicely they ask.

The ultimate answer is that the casino, piano bar, sports bar, cabins, and certain areas of the open decks of the ship -- look for ashtrays afixed to the railings or ashtrays on the tables. How bothersome the smoke will be depends on how many people are smoking at any particular time.

Thanks for the information. As a smoker it is what I was looking for

odd. the only two places that stunk to high heaven on rccl was the casino and the disco. especially when walking through those two areas when they were not in service.

never had that stink on any carnival ship.

I have been a smoker at times when we cruised and a nonsmoker (currently nonsmoker :)). As others have said, the casino and some of the bars can get smokey--I just don't go into them. I've smelled smoke on occassion when walking near a smoking area--just like anywhere else.

Are guests allowed to smoke in all cabins, and what do they do to get the smoke smell out of the cabin?

Yes, guests are allowed to smoke in whatever stateroom they happen to be in. But, in all of our Carnival cruises, I have never once smelled it--I don't know what they use to get the smell out, but it works!

Carnival allows smoking in the cabins, on your balcony, casino, piano bar, sports bar and others. Also on starboard side of side anywhere outside. Also all ships have a cigar bar.

I recently read a posting from early May 2010 that said the Carnival Freedom cigar bar was re-opened as a Jazz Bar and no cigars allowed. Is this true?

Please spare me the righteous drivel on cigar smoking

Smoking is allowed in all cabins and balconies with the exception of the Cloud 9 Spa cabins on Splendor, Dream and Magic (when it starts sailing).

Not sure what they use for the smell, but whatever it is....it works.

Thank goodness this is about smoking.

When I glanced at the thread title, I thought it said: First time on Carnival, question about snorkeling in public areas on Miracle. :D

I might pay extra to see that though. :p

Carnival uses a wonderful "Ionizer" in the rooms if it is smoky smelling. On our cruise, we walked into our room and it was horribly smokey. We called housekeeping, who sent down our wodnerful room steward. The steward said it was one of the worst she'd smelled (so NOT in my head), and the people before us had just sat in the room and smoked the whole cruise. She told us to leave for 1/2 an hour and she would use the Ionizer. When we came back, I could smell NOTHING. Not a cover up smell (which can actually bother me more than smoke), not a chemical. Truly no smell. She did tell us she would have to use it once a day during the cruise, since the smell would creep back into the room, but it worked amazingly well. I also couldn't smell it in the bedding or couch. There was a faint smell in the curtains, but you had to stick your nose right into it. I didn't care enough to check the carpeting. LOL
